Music Discussion

That’s the thing with music... so much of it is memory association. I always liked those mod chicks that liked the Cure and shit like that.

Someone always thinks someone else’s music is shit though. I like Green Day. Seen them play in backyards when they were still the Sweet Children(?). They were accessible for people my age just starting to get into the Berkeley music scene. I remember going to a party with a bunch of older punk types and being like yeah Green Day. They probably would have beaten my ass if they weren’t so busy making fun of me. But to this day I can put those first couple records on and it takes me right to those days.

I like Green Day. They were chastised by the punk scene for selling out IIRC. Fuck it. If you have a chance to get paid for what you do, why not go for it?

I was a huge Aerosmith fan until they started writing love songs in the 80’s and 90’s. They blew Black Sabbath off the stage During the Toys In the Attic tour.

To be fair they were really polarizing even before signing with a major label too. The older hardcore crowd hated them.

As far as getting paid... not just that but just working in a professional environment. A buddy of mine talks about how he used to blow his voice because they could only afford a few hours of studio time and he’d have to lay down all the vocals in a day or too.

If you’re interested in a more stripped down version of Green Day though check out Pinhead Gunpowder. It was a side project of Billy Joe and a few guys from other bands. I like that more than anything Green Day has put out since Kerplunk.

I will say Fleetwood Mac was probably the first band I got sick of hearing. That Rumours album. They played the shit out of it when it came out. Still can't really listen to it.

I happen to like the Eagles. Don't judge. Sometimes I even get tired of hearing their music too.

I think during the 80s Boomers were called Yuppies. Is that who you guys are referring too? Those people?
Yup. Worst generation of all time. Bunch of shit heads who were hippies, sold out in the 80’s (fucking their secretary while their wives stayed home and popped pills while we kids were ignored) and then ran the country into the ground with stupid policies.

Without that generation we wouldn’t have our own music though so there’s that.

A guitar player friend posted a video of this guy with his new guit-steel. Sent me down a sort of country rabbit hole. Found this cool song. Beach Boys singing back up. Sounds very cool.

I’m not an Eagles fan but all them dudes were super talented. Joe Walsh and James Gang good shit, I won’t hold his corporate rock gig against him...

I’m imagining @gst8 getting high and riding his skateboard listening to Green Day thinking he was punk :rotf:
(jk man)

Looked about how you imagine it I’m sure lol... although we were skaters to be exact, not punks. My older brother was a big ole skinhead punk though.

I was kind of a weird mix of jock, stoner/metal, preppie, skater lol.

That scene loved its labels. Hardcore kid, metal kid, punk, skater, etc. people were real touchy about it especially since the whole point was supposed to be open mindedness and being weird. Probably why we stayed on the periphery.

What was the most unexpected collar that you really ducking enjoyed?

For me, it’s still Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake.

If you had pitched me that one, I’d have told you to go fuck yourself. Loved it.

Sounds like... every other AC/DC song ever.

I could have done without those fisheye closeups though.
