Other teams offseason moves

The line is impossible to draw. No way to satisfy everyone. How is Braves okay (which I think it is) and the tomahawk chop bad (please, it’s a crowd play-a-long, not a caveman depiction).

Atlanta Braves keeping name, discussing tomahawk chop
When the Atlanta Braves were first good I was never a fan well around 1992 the local news station came to my school they pointed the camera dead at me and I ripped off my Raider cap and I was on TV tomohawk chopping my ass off, first and last time.

I couldn't care less either way.

Schefter saying no Native American reference in the new name or imagery. Hopefully that squashes the Warriors rumors.
A Warrior can be from anywhere, tho. Celtic, Zulu, Spartan, Viking, etc. Basically just an experienced soldier or fighter.

But the only reason it was on the table was for them to keep the native branding.

I'd say fuck it and go with Warriors, just change the logo to something nondescript. Make it a spear and boom, yer done. If you want a mascot, pick some ancient warrior archetype and slap it on there. Forget trying to go with anything Native or racial of any sort. It's a no win situation in this day and age.

Go with this, just because.

I’d say fuck it and take the indian head off the helmet and logo. Keep the redskin name and put a potato on the helmet and be done with it.

Pretty sure the ‘Skins will be painting black lives matters in the end zone.

Problem solved.

If I were Snyder I'd leak a bunch of equally as un-PC options as being under consideration just to troll.

According to Carmelo Anthony the Warriors is offensive regardless of the imagery that accompanies it. Of course, he also thinks defense and sharing the ball is offensive so maybe a tad sensitive.

For crying out loud... let’s change all of the names to something completely inoffensive and air the games on Nick Jr.

Washington Koala Bears
Philadelphia PJ Masks
Dallas Lollipops
New York Dandelions

For fuck’s sake.

We can change the stadium names too. We’re not playing at Mile High, it’s now “Safe Space Stadium.” And the Jets? Their stadium is now to be known as “The Sock-Hop.” All of our home games will be played at “Grandma’s House.”

pretty sure this is some kinda historic logo... could just do this and simply call them the warriors..

I actually like this 'cause it's sorta funky with that feather down the middle.

Thought they were getting out of the Indian theme altogether?

well that's the tragedy and extortion of it... I've heard they're ditching all "native American" imagery... dunno if that's true, but if so they've been completely cancelled by these lunatics..

sad and unnecessary to wipe out a teams entire history.. a team that's been around under that identity for like 90 years..

I don't really care personally what they do with that team, it's not something I cry myself to sleep over @ night... just on a personal level for me the NFL is all about the history, it's so deep and awesome storied stuff, you know the Redskins/Cowboys rivalry, all their great teams and legendary players wore the uni, to me they're classic... just seems extreme to shed all imagery related to their team history.

but whatever, I can just imagine the awful, new wave, modern uniform asshatery they'll be wearing as the Washington Diplomats or whatever.. :p

that said I found this helmet history in another discussion..

200_jpg-1492076_jpg-1495967.JPG

that really is the guy on the helmet I recon..

this is from an article from Yahoo, I guess would substantiate the above..

Unfortunately, Vince Lombardi had cancer and passed away in 1970. In 1971, the Washington Redskins hired successful Los Angeles Rams Head Coach George Allen, Jr. In an effort to make his mark on the Redskins immediately and not liking the Lombardi “R” on the helmets, George Allen instituted a change. With the help of Native American chiefs and their approval, the current Redskins logo design on the helmets was created. Allen had a winning season his first year also and the next year in 1972, he took the Washington Redskins to the NFC East Championship with a dominating victory over the Dallas Cowboys and then on to the Super Bowl. The Redskins wore Allen’s helmets with the logo that is still worn today.

“The face shows character, strength, and honor,” Head Coach Allen said of the Native American face on the helmet. Walter “Blackie” Wetzel actually designed the logo and he was the former President of the National Congress of American Indians. The logo was approved by Native Americans at that time. Both George Allen Vince Lombardi were “color blind” and neither were racists. The Redskins logo was never intended to offend anyone. Bobby Blackfoot said, “Many of you have asked me about the original picture used for the Washington Redskins logo. This is one of the six pictures presented and is what is represented on the helmets today! My Grandma says she is so proud to see Chief Two Guns White Calf on the field, helmets and everywhere. I have the same pride knowing this is based after the real people of the USA. HAIL REDSKINS PRIDE!”

they oughta be able to ditch the Redskin name and use something similar to their historical helmet lineup and keep their identity IMO... unless we're letting the crazies run the entire country now... which very well may be
