Where is this forum going from here?

This forum has taken a real turn for the worst in the last year. It's becoming worse and worse. The sniping at each other is getting unbearable and the name calling is just ridiculous. I know we joke around a lot calling each other dumb and things like that but now the name calling and the backlash has become rude and really harmful. What has happened?

Are we just tired of each other? Have we formed such strong opinions of others that we just can't talk about football anymore and share options without this kind of hateful name calling? I get that we've been around each other a long time but why the animosity? Forums/message boards are for sharing opinions. Sure we debate and argue but this name calling just has to stop.

I notice that some long time members have stopped posting altogether. I don't know if they have just left the forum or are just consumed with the troubles of the world. I suspect it's more the former ... it's just getting tiring.

To start here is what we're going to do.
  1. We're closing the Carr thread. Nothing good is coming form that discussion and it's totally counterproductive.
  2. We're also closing the Random Thoughts thread because it has too often gone off the rails and posters just can't stop with the political references. I've explained so many times why political discussion isn't welcome here but I guess it's a hard concept to grasp.
  3. We'll create a COVID-19 thread in the NST forum and ask that we keep the discussion contained to issues related to the virus, i.e. vaccines, solutions, trends, PPE etc. Do not let your opinions of government's handling of the situation leak into the conversation or we'll close that thread too. Remember everybody has an opinion and that is okay. If you feel it necessary to debate somebody's opinion do it respectfully.

Maybe you have suggestions on how we can get back to a reasonable discussion forum about the Raiders and sports in general. I realize this is a tough time for everybody with what is happening in the world and that we all have a lot of extra time on our hands but there is no reason for this kind of behavior.


With all that said, if anybody feels it's too difficult to get back to a normal discussion format please feel free to leave and find a place that is more to your liking. I have tried to provide a place for us to congregate and talk about the Raiders. I have footed the bill completely out of my own pocket. I've never ask for money, never put ads on the site to annoy everybody but really it's getting tiring. To be honest I have considered closing this thing down as it's really becoming difficult to wade through all the hateful posts aimed at one another. I hope it doesn't come to that but it might.

I’ve contributed to my share of the rule violations. I’ll work to stay between the lines. I enjoy this place. That shit does drag things down. I don’t think I’ll miss either of those threads.

I appreciate this forum. It’s probably the only real Raider forum left.

I love the fact that you can basically voice your opinion with out having to worry about being banned. You don’t have to be a homer and can voice your real opinion.

Seems the only thing that divides this place is one player. Crazy as it seems, it’s the only real issue we all have with one another.

There has been more name calling as of late, but in my opinion, this has more to do with the familiarity between us posters, it’s like we are family and don’t hold anything back. I know some of it does get out of line- but it’s all forgivable, I even forgive the tent man. It is what it is, it’s boring as shit and most of us are on local lockdown with tensions building up.
we have to talk about the same bullshit until the season starts.

The friendly name calling is fine. It’s the ugly nasty name calling that has gotten out of control. Name calling that is intended to hurt others and elicits an equally negative response. Then we’re off to the races. Y’all know the difference and nobody really has to show people where to draw the line. Y’all know.

So the old adage: Read. Think. Post.
 
This is always the time of year where we all start going a little stir crazy knowing football's gone for a few more months. Not a bad idea to reset things and remind some people (not me because I'm perfect) of the forum rules.
 
Fuggin glad that thread is gone. It was like a car accident that you just can't look away from even though it is painful to see. Like a moth to the flame! Thanks Bones for providing one hell of a website. Even though I don't post much, I have been enjoying it for a long ass time. Much appreciated!

Block everyone but Curly Howard from posting, fix things fast :D

I dont post much, rarely watch games anmore, but i enjoy reading about whats going on in football and some of the interactions between people. Been mostly lurking since a number of us migrated over from the Mercury forum, if i remember right. Lot of names we haven't seen around here for a long time unfortunatley. Apreciate the site you run for us Bones
