Fuck You NFL

Well, now that you put it that way, where do I sign up to have the next Nike civil rights revolution on my football team? Kaep’s following is not about football. And no way can he assure an owner he won’t protest again. Too much peer pressure on him not to just play football, which he was bad at when he last played. The NFL is a business. The guy in charge of a team does not want to hire somebody with more power on the street.

Can’t believe how blatantly the NFL tried to fuck him today though.
Only difference from before is the blatant part. They’ve been very discreet and passive aggressive about it previously while letting the fans get riled up over the disinformation.

PFT whiffed on this angle. Power is far more important that jersey sales.

The notion that Kaepernick and Nike had ulterior motives came from the NFL’s too-long-didn’t-read statement on the Kaepernick workout, which included this: “Last night, when Nike, with Colin’s approval, requested to shoot an ad featuring Colin and mentioning all the NFL teams present at the workout, we agreed to the request.”

Nike, the league’s official uniform provider, partnered with Kaepernick in September 2018. Some thought that the success of the relationship would prove to the league the value of embracing Kaepernick, who sold plenty of 49ers jerseyseven after he stopped playing for the 49ers.

That’s the angle that continues to be lost in all of this. Despite the vocal minority that despises Kaepernick and huff and puffs whenever his name comes up, Kaepernick’s return to the NFL would result in a spike in jersey and apparel sales, with his supporters buying the merchandise in droves.

The Heidi Game.

It's like do you remember where you were when you heard John Kennedy was shot?

I remember where I was when they switched the Raider game to Heidi. Do you?

Nope. Too young. I was 3. But my earliest memory of the Raiders is Super Bowl II. In 1971/72 we were stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany (my Dad was in the Air Force). My brothers and I watched NFL Films reel-to-reel stories of the Super Bowl teams/games on base.

Kaepernick ain't exactly helping his cause...if his cause is, in fact, to play QB in the NFL again. Way too much gum bumping. Way too much posturing. I've mostly been on his side of things (He lost me with some of his Nike retardation), and I wouldn't even consider signing him.

  • He's 32 years old.
  • It's been three years since dude last played a down.
  • He wasn't especially good to begin with.
  • Now he brings some SJW chaos with him.

Realistically, he's a backup QB at best this year. Next year, given a full offseason, he is, at best, a low-end starter. In either case, he's going to bring unwanted distractions and drama with him wherever he signs, including a potential PR shitstorm if/when he's benched due to poor performance or by simply being outplayed by someone else in practice. That's just the reality of situation. His being blackballed out of the league two or three years ago is no longer relevant, I'm afraid. There's no denying that it happened. It just doesn't matter anymore with regards to whether he should be brought back.

Kaepernick just isn't worth the headache at this point.

I admire the man for having the courage to be the face of a movement, for taking a knee, and for shining a light on how fucked up law enforcement is in this country. I haven't stood for the anthem since junior high. I feel him.

That said, I can't justify signing a QB whose focus isn't squarely on playing QB at a high level, and I don't believe for a second that he would be willing to go all in on being the best QB he can be. If he played most any other position, I could easily dismiss everything and roll the dice on him. QB? Nah. If a QB's head isn't all in, I'm all out.

Love it. Fucking love it.

But...then he had to go and play the victim. That's where he loses me.

Dude's been a dirty player since his college days. His reputation is one that he earned. Trying to turn it into a race thing makes him sound like a bitch. He comes off sounding no better than AB with this bullshit.

didn’t follow it, can you elaborate?
From what I read, at the eleventh hour, the NFL told him that he needed to sign a waiver which included forfeiture of rights to ever bring a lawsuit against the NFL over employment again. When his agent suggested that they’d sign a standard injury waiver, without all of the additional conditions, the league insisted that he sign the waiver that they had prepared. He refused to and that’s why he ended up moving the whole thing.
