View Full Version : Draft picks...
The recent rehashing of the trade that landed us Barksdale and Vietcong Jones got me to thinking.
If you could repeat that trade this year, giving up your 2013 2nd round pick for a 3 and 4 this year, would you do it?
This is, of course, assuming that we make the playoffs this year or next, bumping the Palmer compensation to two #1 picks.
This would, theoretically, give us two 3rd round picks, assuming we get our 3rd round comp pick, as expected.
Seems like there oughta be a Jahri Evans or Carl Nicks available in there somewhere. Maybe even a legit RT prospect if we can't add one via FA.
Of course, doing so means we enter the 2013 draft with no picks until Rd3. It's something to consider, though. Give our new GM something to play with.

Im not too upset with any of the draft pick trades the Raiders have made, but I look forward to the next time we have a some good picks.

We have to make the AFC Champ game to bump that pick to a 1.

No we have to go the AFC championship game this year or next for that pick to elevate from a2nd rounder to first.
I have seen so many media heads fuck this up? Its a 1st and 2nd unless we hit an AFC championship game.
Fucking asstards.
Welp, at least we know we'll have a 1st round pick in 2013.

Yeah and we can draft a QB with that pick if we need one. Thats why i didnt understand all the media hate.
Bill Simmons said it was the worst trade in 20 years? Or maybe ever? He should stick to B-Ball...

Can you even trade a pick that may be involved in a pending trade? Kinda think that both the 2013 1st and 2nd are on freeze because of that...
Probably so, unfortunately.

Can't answer this question in the abstract, any more than I think it was the raiders' plan to do this heading into the 2011 draft. If I'm in the war room as a scout and have some guy who falls to us who I believe was a superior talent who fell unexpectedly and would be available, I'd argue for doing something like that.
Thing is, we now have a GM, not Al who always believed we were a few pieces away from returning to the promised land. I don't see McKenzie mortgaging 2013's draft. On the pragmatic side, I think McKenzie would want to get a true handle of the roster through a season and have the best opportunity to improve it when he has that knowledge. For example, without Bresnehan as DC, what are the actual holes in personnel in our D? With a full offseason to work with Palmer and another year for Campbell and Barksdale, where are the holes on the O?
And on the more imaginative side, no matter how good the Raiders are in 2012, hard to imagine a team with a few playoff veterans as us getting all the way to the SB and winning it.
For both reasons, I see McKenzie as wanting to have as many options to add talent next season as possible. So that would also mean getting aggressive on creating cap space where necessary and possible.
Can you even trade a pick that may be involved in a pending trade? Kinda think that both the 2013 1st and 2nd are on freeze because of that...
I may be wrong amigo, but I think the Saints-Jets trade a while back involving Jon Vilma had a kicker like that.
If it escalated to a certain pick (Which New Orleans didnt have) it moved to the next year and become a first/second or some shit like that?
I could be wrong, but I remember some hubub about it...
Make it like the damn NBA. My Raptors traded 50 grand and a friggin 2017 pick last draft, LOL. Look at the Hornets...They may get Minnisota's unprotected #1 pick. That pick is from the Marco Jaric/Sam Cassell trade in 2005. Seriously.
