Andrew Luck- QB- Stanford
6-4 235lbs Sophomore

Pros:

I am not sure if I can remember a redshirt Sophomore getting so much NFL Draft attention but Andrew Luck is gliding along on the hype train. Some draft experts are proclaiming Luck the next Peyton Manning and have settled with Luck being their top prospect. When you watch Luck there is a lot to like about the 6-4 quarterback prospect. The thing that impressed me the most was his poise and pocket awareness. Luck seemed unflappable in what was a pressure situation during this first season as a full time starter. Luck makes quick and smart decisions which is an obvious result of the tutelage from Coach Jim Harbaugh. Luck’s technique is exceptional with great footwork and no wasted motion in his throwing delivery. He gets the ball out quickly which is a very important skill to have in the NFL. Luck combines his technical skills with a strong arm and good accuracy. While watching some film I noticed that Luck is very accurate while on the run and rolling out of the pocket, which are two things he will be expected to do in the NFL.

Cons:

It is really hard to find many flaws in Luck’s game. He has all the physical tools coupled with the proper techniques. ***However, there is such a small sampling and he needs to prove he can maintain his high level of play over a longer stretch. It’s a known fact that quarterbacks need game experience to develop properly. They need to be able to encounter different defensive packages and schemes, so this will be something weighing on the minds of NFL scouts and GMs. Something else that is going to be closely watched this season is the way Luck responds after losing Heisman candidate Toby Gerhart. There is going to be a lot more pressure placed on the shoulders of Luck.

***This analysis was done on June 30, 2010....he's getting better and better with each passing game.

Al wanted to trade three #1's for the rights to John Elway. We'd have had 8-10 Super Bowl wins if that had happened. Would the Dark Lord take a page out of the past and try it again? I think he might. :D

We generally draft like shit in the 1st round anyways.

The fact we don't have a 1st this year makes it more un likely than maybe it was in 1983 when Al tried to get Elway. Plus Carolina is such a mess it would be hard for them to pass on a talent like Luck. Their fan base might go completely over the edge.

A team that is drafting high is going to want some immediate help in exchange on top of many future picks... Knowing that, we're probably better off if the Bills get the pick than Carolina because the Panthers have a pretty good roster... If the Bills like Fitzpatrick enough, they may take someone who could fill their LT spot (Veldheer) or maybe McClain to team with Posluszny at ILB if they still want to play that 34...

Al would probably have to make a deal with someone to get a first back this year... Maybe get our 1st back from the Pats since they have two #1's and then trade that + future picks to whoever...

I dunno, a scenario might include:

* Trade McFadden + our 2nd for the Pats higher first (unless they are willing to take on Nnams added salary, I don't know what else they are lacking)

* Trade Veldheer + the 1st from the Pats + our 2011 3rd + our 2012 1st + our 2013 1st to Buffalo for their 2010 first...

Report: Luck plans to stay in school, for now

SI's Peter King reported on Football Night in America on NBC Sunday that Stanford QB Andrew Luck's "current plan" is to stay in school rather than leave for the 2011 NFL draft.
King cites Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, who doesn't think Luck will go pro because of his commitment to academics. Should Luck enter the draft, he'd be the consensus favorite to be selected first overall by Carolina. Ultimately, the third-year sophomore's decision may depend on his performance in the Cardinal's December 3 Orange Bowl matchup with Virginia Tech. The Hokies have one of the most talented secondaries in college football. Dec. 26 - 8:32 pm et

Because of his "commitment to academics." That's funny, colleges won't be going anywhere and he can finish his degree at his leisure. The kid needs to go pro and not waste any of his earning potential. I'm excited about him as a prospect, but the injury risk and chance of flopping loom large, you have to cash in when the money is there.

According to ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas, the Panthers have already decided to select Stanford QB Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick if he enters the 2011 NFL draft.

Owner Jerry Richardson hinted as much in a media session Tuesday. "I think it would be somewhat unusual for us to trade down in this particular case," Richardson said. Hall of Famer and Stanford alum John Elway conceded after Monday's Orange Bowl that Luck "pretty much has to go" to the NFL considering the financial bottom line. Selecting Luck would be a concession by Carolina that Jimmy Clausen was a waste of a second-round pick. The Panthers are without their 2011 second-rounder after flipping it for receiver project Armanti Edwards in last year's draft.

I know, I know that everything "realistic" says we can't get Luck... and that's true. But I think it has more to do with the fact that we don't have a 1st rounder this year than just about anything. We know Al would give up three first rounders to move up, but I don't see a team accepting that if they have to wait an extra year to use them. They'd be first rounders in '12, '13, and '14 as opposed to '11, '12, and '13 which would carry a lot more weight.

Maybe Al will do something completely unorthodox and trade McFadden and McClain with a few first rounders for Luck. Then re-sign Bush and look for another middle 'backer.

I love this Madden trading shit.

Luck decides to stay at Stanford (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5995754)

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck will return for his junior season and skip the 2011 NFL draft, the school announced on Thursday.

"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012", Luck said in a statement.

Luck was considered the consensus No. 1 pick if he decided to leave school after his sophomore season. He led the Cardinal to a 12-1 record this season, capped off by a 40-12 win over Virginia Tech in the Discover Orange Bowl.

Luck completed 70 percent of his passes in the 2010 season for 3,338 yards and 32 touchdowns. He threw only eight interceptions in 372 passing attempts.

Luck finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting to Auburn quarterback Cam Newton.

He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Stanford.

So, with a restructured deal, Aso is easily worth a #1 pick in 2011.

Oakland will probably still be picking somewhere in the top half of Rd1. Obviously, you'd want to try to send Scrabble to a team that will likely end up in the same boat (Sorry, Nnam. It's business, not personal.), if you don't just include him in the actual trade for the top pick. So you're theoretically looking at a pair of ~Top15 picks + a #1 in 2012. Surely that'd be enough.

It absolutely does anyway you look at it when comparing our chances of getting him right now. He may slip, and we will be in the first round. Right now we are looking at the number 1 overall pick in the draft with no trade chips in our gun. Next season he may drop to #10 and it will be easier to trade up from the 32nd pick.
