This isn't a real surprise. Oakland is a blue collar town and the areas around Oakland are depressed. Many people are out of work and this depressed economy isn't going to help the Raiders sell out any time soon. People are struggling to buy gas to get back and forth to work and put food on their table, let alone come off of the bucks for decent seats to see the Raiders. It's not just happening in Oakland, though. As this recession drags on, this will certainly have an effect on other teams across the Country. We've fallen on hard times and people do not have disposable income like they once enjoyed. The price of parking alone stands at $33.00 and then when you figure in a couple of tickets, you're looking at a single day after food and drinks that can cost in excess of $200.00 for two people.
With the price of food rising the way it has, and the price of gas near $3.50 per gallon, and high rent around the Bay Area, bills, car expenses, health care costs, putting kids through school etc., etc.... Coupled with the fact that wages have remained the same in these areas of society, and by that I mean the cost of everything has risen, but wages are very low, not following the costs of keeping our families afloat in this economy, certainly less and less people can afford the simple pleasure of a day at the park watching their beloved team. They want to go, but they just can't make it. It's a very sad situation.
God help us.

Honestly if the economy stays like this for the next few years, I can't see how the Raiders are going to be able to survive in Oakland, even if we become competitive. I see the same problem in small market towns like Buff, Jax. $33 bucks to park, is absurd.

Someone needs to blackout Cables fuckin eye
This fuckin team.. I swear- every fuckin week they get... ya know?
We are the only team that has to go 130 yards to score a TD
Tyvone Branch and his face to the mask shit is a prime example
Had those MF'ers dead to rights back agaisnt their own goal line and he goes and does that stupid shit
I hope that Cable is making MF'ers that do stupid shit like that run gassers on tuesday morings and make the whole team watch
This is fucked up beyond repair
I dont give a damn how good a player is
This team lacks major discipline- theres no recourse-
3 years and not one DB coach are teaching the guys to keep their fuckin hands off of facemasks, and if they do-- you'll be benched?
Any player that fucks up and is not disciplined shouled be pulled from the game
I dont care how good they are-- or our best player-- dont mean shit how good they are if they keep giving away free first downs for stupidity
It's one thing I really liked about Gruden- dude didnt fuck around
And if the refs didnt catch a stupid act that woulda drawn a fould?
Still make the MF'er run gassers
125 yards in penalties a game?
Your gonna get fuckin goosed every week
Even San Diego is not being televised at times. The only way to lift it is to win games.
KC games haven't been selling out. It's a shame that someone who is filthy rich doesn't take some extra money and purchase up tix and play Santa with the local kids who want to go to the game with their Dads, but can't afford it.

At some point people WILL stop givin' a shit. That's what happened to the Rams in LA.
I agree about the lack of discipline. Some outfits can be run by a Corporal, but some, like US for example, need a Sergeant! They should bring R. Lee Ermy in there to berate em and set them straight.
Cable is a Corporal.

The Rams never became consistently good in their west coast tenure and LA doesn't give a shit most days as it is.
Raiders tickets are tied to their record. Win games, otherwise blackout.

Adding Mount Davis made sure that the Raiders would never be a team that sells out... The Raiders are just not going to find 10,000 people that are willing to pay $40-50 to sit way the hell up there... The seats aren't comfortable and you feel like you are going to fall over... We should have kept it at as a 50,000 seat stadium until we got a new one...

Yep -- Mt. Davis was a disaster. Sat up there once. No mas!
Like Turk pointed out with this lousy economy (which by the way isn't getting better) an awful lot of Raiders fans just can't see forking over $50-1000 for a ticket to watch the garbage they've been fed for so long. Not sure what it's gonna take but for sure more than 5 wins/season.

what i'm surprised is that they sold out a game last year! Seriously- worst team in the league, worst stadium in the league, and a lot of bad apple fans that make you not want to bring your family. That's a recipe for disaster. That said if this team was a contender they would sell out. People can say they didn't back in the day with Gannon- but that had a lot to do with PSLs and the stupid Oakland marketing people. Raiders need to seriously cut ticket prices in half and try to make it fun. I'm all for the new rules to weed out the mega drunk- that always turned me off to the games. I remember i was at a game and guy threw up on my back. fuck that shitt...

Well.... some us already stopped giving a shit.... around the era of the Arturo / NorvAl debacles..... Also part of the reason why I won't drop a dime to buy a Raider jersey / ticket and provide legitimacy to Al's dementia....
On another note.... I'm really surprised teams haven't dropped prices on tickets. I dropped rent on every single one of my properties by 10% to keep them rented. Housing prices are down even in coastal areas by about 5-10% (upwards of 30% inland) before they'll sell. The busiest restaurants and clubs also relaxed their prices... Yet football teams aren't dropping price on tickets, concessions, jerseys, or parking.... Kind of makes you wonder how much of the pie those TV contracts really are.... otherwise why the hell aren't these teams slashing prices......
SoCal, That was kind of you to drop rent prices the way you did. There should be more people who care enough to do things like you did to make life easier on the working class, but unfortunately greed dominates our culture.
My question is, why can so many no name college teams get air time on Saturdays, yet we can't seem to get the NFL to change it's policy so local residents can see Professional teams locally?
One would think that showing the "product" might be more effective in getting people to want to purchase tickets to attend the games, rather than punishing everyone for the communities surrounding the team's stadium by not showing the product and no one really knowing what they're playing like.
The Raiders are playing better this season in my opinion. They still have a ways to go, but not showing what we have in games like the opener against the Rams just kills any chance to get Bay Area fans excited about the team. JMHO.
What really stinks is that there is sooooooo much money in the Bay Area. We have all these filthy rich folks who can purchase and donate tickets to the needy in the area and receive tax deductions for charitable contributions. But, it just doesn't happen. There are soooooo many foster Children and group home kids that would LOVE to see the Raiders play. Technically, that stadium could be sold out every week, but those with the most money don't think about the less fortunate in a way that will ever make this idea a reality. So, kids miss out on a fantastic outing in their area. The rich get richer and the money sits up in the bank.
I remember it happening once about 7, or 8 years ago. There were a few thousand unsold tix and some tremendously generous individual purchased those remaining tickets before Thursday and gave them out to charity. Everyone got to see the game around the area and it was a terrific act of kindness. If I were filthy rich, I would certainly do it, but I can't.
Socal dropped the price to keep them rented :::a business decision:::
He didnt drop rent to be a 'nice guy'.
Hell, I had to cut 50 bucks off my basement suite because that put me in a similiar ball park to other suites in my city.
If you don't follow the market or provide something different (Which a rental suite is not) then you do what you need to in order to keep the thing rented.
It costs a lot more to find a new renter, renovate, sign the documents, get everything sorted etc. than it does to drop 50 bucks off the current renters price. Especially when you factor in the time needed to get things in order...

Most of my renters are long-term.... I don't want to see them bail any more than they want to find a new place.... I know a lot of landlords that have let good renters go because somebody lost a job or missed a payment. I've never done that, and I never will do that. Just to give you an example... I had one 4-plex where 3 of the 4 renters all lost jobs in the same month... I didn't give a single person a 3 day notice or put any pressure on them.... I had 2 of those tenants not pay a penny of rent for close to 2 months, but we stayed in contact and I kept my patience with them (this is why I don't use property managers). Within 4 months they were all back on their feet and all caught back up... Now when I have a vacancy or buy a vacant property... I don't put ads in the paper.... my tenants call their friends and my places are rented same day.
So in some ways.... yes it's a business decision.... but business (in my opinion) is about dealing with people... and most people tend to business with people they like.....
Now you see why I like Al Davis so much.... ;)
