That's a nice addition. I love that not only are we adding players that have a passion for the game and for working hard...we are adding coaches that share these passions as well. I hope he can help mold McClain get him to be that player that the team needs him to be.

Not to mention former Raider players. I wish there were more of those guys that would be around the team on a regular basis. Help really bring back some of that mystique. There have been several key figures lately (Gannon and TB come to mind initially, although I read there are others as well) that have expressed interest in returning to the fold in a mentor like fashion. I don't know why Al won't allow it.

Yeah...I like that he's bringing in former Raiders as well. As for Gannon and Timmer...neither of them stands a chance in hell of ever getting on the coaching staff. Gannon has trashed (some would say he was just speaking the truth) Al's Raiders and he won't forgive him for that. Tim, he hasn't trashed the Raiders but he seems to walk a fine line. I think he drives Al nuts personally. He says just enough to upset the Godfather but not enough to cast him into purgatory.

Gannon's on a short list of two, right behind Marcus.
Al brought in Beikert to school McClain. Interesting how Beikert was replaced by a 1st round rookie in 2002, and now has been brought back to coach the Raiders' 1st round pick in 2010.

Word...the facility is on permanent Red alert for those two guys.
Also, I believe that the things that made Gannon a good player would make him a bad coach. I don't think his abrasive personality would go over very well.
Good point Sleet...hadn't thought of it in those terms.
We never did replace the leadership and intensity that he brought. Here's hoping that Ro can finally be that guy.

Biekert was one of my all time favorites. Definition of a lunch pail guy. Showed up on Sundays, and played his ass off. I remember when he single-handedly beat the Colts by figuring out their offensive signals (that was before Peyton was doing his pre-snap shenanigans). He got some recognition from Dr. Z of sports illustrated (i think he put him on his All pro team, which was actually based on film study. Dude also knocked Scott Davis out of football by breaking his jaw.
Just what R. McClain needs.

Cable must have hired Bieker to do be his designated jaw breaker.
I had forgotten that is was Biekert that broke Davis's jaw. Man, that was one talented guy. I don't know what his issues were but had he panned out that 1st round draft (Davis, McDaniel, Brown) would have been the best ever.

:D This makes me and Stepper really happy.
I remember there being no shortage of people stumping for this move years ago...even before he left, as I recall. I like it. So long as he's not in charge of teaching McClain how to cover TEs, he should be a nice add. :D

Beikert is one of those high football IQ guys. I'll always remember that 2nd half against Manning and the Colts when Beikert single handedly decoded Manning's audible system and the Raiders made a ridiculous comeback to upset those guys by virtue of Beikert out audibling Manning. That tells me this guy can actually think on his feet... game management from the sidelines is something we haven't had here for most of the past decade. If he can win the respect of the locker room... he is a diamond in the rough HC prospect down the road in my opinion.
