Raiders re-sign LB Williams
Alameda, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders re-signed linebacker Sam Williams to an undisclosed contract on Monday.
Williams has played his entire career in Oakland since the Raiders selected him in the third round of the 2003 draft out of Fresno State.
The 29-year-old has amassed 118 career tackles, one sack and one interception in 118 career games. He played in all 16 games for Oakland last year, making two starts.

118 tackles/118 career games=1 tackle/game
I hope they're not paying him too much...

I still don't get why he hasn't been used as a Mike. From what I have seen of him, he is by far the stoutest of our LB's against the run. I know he isn't very fast, but in our D, the DB's and OLB's do the covering. Our Mike plays the LOS. What am I missing?

Good special teams guy. Always thought he never got a fair shake at SLB, but obviously he never showed enough.

SW doesn't have the football IQ/instincts to start at MIKE, and he is not consistent/good enough tackler to start at any LB position, even as a two-down LB. He has played well in spots, and is good on special teams (blocking and tackling), that is why he was re-signed.
Lemme quess -- one handed push ups with fingers extended this time around?

Thank god.
I actually :pound:-ed at this post. Love it.
I'm okay with having him back, he's good for a couple solid quarters of football at SAM every season. So he's a decent guy to have come in off the bench for a couple plays a game. But let's not call him quality depth. A couple years ago I liked him as a guy with potential. Now he'd be taking a spot for a kid with potential. At this point in the off-season, you've got to have guys like him signed. Then you fill up the camp roster with kids that hopefully send him to retirement. We know there's no future for him as a starter.

I'm with you...he's a good depth guy...and he does very well in the goal line D package.
