On ESPN's Mike and Mike, he stated something akin to the fact that Gradkowski has HUGE upside and reminds him of a young J. Garcia. He also stated that he has immeasurable intangibles such as a fire/passion for the game. In regards to the Raiders, he stated that they have some good players on defense and Gradkowski makes the team dangerous.

Kind of makes me wonder why exactly it was that Jonboy was acquiring so many QB's when Bruce had all that fire and potential?.... Makes me wonder why he would cut said guy...
I love Chuck, but he may be the best endorsement for The Bruce candidacy right now... If you listen to him on MNF, dude's the happy drunk guy you see at parties that loves everybody...

If my memory serves me correct, the Chuckster does have a DUI or two under his belt.
Chucky likes vet QB's and vet players for that matter.

If you recall, TB had Jeff Garcia who, by Gruden's own admission, had similar fire and passion, but at the time had more experience. So, between two fiery competitors - one with experience and one with relatively little - one would have went with Garcia.

Before the Gradittes jump me in the parking lot, I'm just saying the Gruden comments would hold a hell of a lot more meaning for me had he not benched Bruce for the likes of spares like Tim Rattay and Luke McCown, and then cut him outright after just a couple of years...

But Bruce couldn't be the next Gannon if he hadn't been cut more than a few times.

Jon Gruden is walking the fine line of not pissing off ANYBODY. He's pretty good on MNF but if you notice he chooses his words carefully whether he's praising some DT as being "a monster" or dancing through the rain drops talking about the Raidahs. Gruden should have been born a politician. When he's running the show, however, he's pretty definitive about who he likes and who he doesn't. That is what seems to rub people (players and organizations) wrong. Not sayin' that's a bad thing. Just sayin'.
As far as Jonny boy coming back to Alameda I think we can pretty much forget that. Why would he? If he tires of the broadcast booth there are going to be plenty of opportunities for him elsewhere -- unless Al retires then maybe all bets are off. Maybe that's what he's waiting for.

Evaluating talent is not Chucks strong suit. He is a pure X and o guy.

I guess I qualify as a Graddite as much as anybody and I think the same thing. Gruden's a bullshitter.
I like him but he's a bullshitter. Same thing with 85 and others gushing about whatisface. A lot of these guy are just plain bullshitting.
It's the NFL Ol' Boys club. I was surprised to hear Wisenhunt say something critical of whatisface.

Chucky did start Bruce as a rookie in TB. I know injuries led to this, but it showed that he at least was worthy of starting

Gannon wasn't the only QB to bounce around before hitting his stride. Kurt Warner was in Canada, Europe and Arena before finally making it.

And even then he still bounced around some more.

Same with the "lispy" one.

It would be like McCarthur returning to the Phillipines.

Doesn't mean much to me. Like that island dude said, Gruden seems to praise everyone. My buddy was a big Gruden fan until he watched him on MNF. In his words, "every fucking game he says 'that is the best player I've ever seen!'

I think Gruden is just having tons of fun in his post-high-pressure job. Punch drunk with no pressure.
