** They've got a great defense this year. They are going to stop a lot of people." -- Chargers running back Darren Sproles.

"They aren't the same team. They have guys that want to win and play hard. They played their hearts out." -- Chargers tight end Antonio Gates.

They are right no matter the outcome few of us could have seen it turn out like this. KC is next and we should beat them.

They're right. They know if we had any kind of passing game, we would actually be a good team. We're that close.

Our Defense and our run game is gonna hurt some people this year. Just look at McFadden's blocks again this year! He takes guys out.

It's gonna be knock down, drag out fun if we can just get the wins along with it.

I wanna see more play action, roll outs, something that can make things happen in the passing game, because no matter how much potential our run game has, we still need to show some ability to throw the ball.

Starting two rookie WRs was crazy. I'm not sure what happened to Walker but those guy were blowing routs it was just plain ugly. We need Chaz back right fucking now and Russ has got to stop staring down his WRs

For whatever it's worth, I went to a chargers board in San Diego, and the fans are stunned by what they saw. Many are saying (no surprise) that their boys stunk up the joint, but more than a few are actually giving the Raiders some props for their performance. Here's a taste:

"...WOW ! The Raiders kicked our butts physically. We should look at what their defense did and how we can learn from it. They were ready for a tough physical fight and we were not. I couldn't believe how they ran right over us. The Raiders are improved ( except for their QB ) and we are not as good as we think we are.Oakland dominated on both the D & O lines. That will usually win the game for you but in our case it's better to be lucky than good. We were not the best team on the field. The difference was the play of the QB's. Rivers is way better than Russell and gutted it out to squeak out a win.
The coaches MUST figure out how to pressure the QB and the offense MUST figure out how to protect Rivers and run block. I guess we will be looking for more O linemen.
We got lucky last night. Lots of work to do. Thank you Lord for a win we didn't deserve..."

The way folks are buzzing about the Raiders, you'd think we won the damn game. Truly encouraging. The key now for the Raiders is to be pleased, but NOT satisfied.

Lesson 1 -- Play hard, with heart and passion and fury: CHECK.

Lesson 2 -- QB accuracy.

Lesson 3 -- Seal the deal.

Shoulda went to WR camp. I personally don't think higgins will ever be a consistent route runner. Can't trust a guy who likes getting a kid n play haircut in 2009. But DHB woulda been so much better had he gone to passing camp like Murphy. DHB is going to get better, Walker will get healthier, and so will Chaz. I just wish we coulda had a jump start.

It mitigates the pain, but there's only one lesson: Win the phreakin game! There's nothing else.

Watched ESPN in an airport. Analysts said Raiders had the most upside of several of the losing teams they profiled.

Of greater significance was that I watched the game in Katie Kelly's Tavern in downtown Boston (Right next to the Black Rose where they were having some sort of Bullets for Belfast reunion) with a shitload of Patriot fans while proudly wearing my Raider colors (I was strapped for the walk back to my hotel--but they didn't know that). When RS came on the toob they all started crying as only the Irish can do (so I'm told). Being a little buzzed, I stood up and yelled (as if I were at the game) "Richard Fuckin' Seymour, Yeah, Baby") to which I was treated with free beer the rest of the night! (I poured it in the bush next to me because I knew they were trying to set me up). Bottom line, I had a lot of Patriot fans come up to me and say we got a hell of a steal and that Bellychick sucks!
