This D couldn't stop Navy. I think Birdy's obvious high football IQ, and his posts dealing with gap responsibilities are wasted on this crowd. It appears that our defensive strategy is to just try to find who you think has the ball! There is an utter lack of discipline.

It's going to be an interesting decision in regard to who we retain between Fargas/Rankin/Russell at RB.....

I can only hope that our Defense is playing some form of "rope a dope" this preseason. Beyond that, they look downright awful. Yikes.

Well, considering the starters only played one series on both offense and defense with the exception of Samson Satele, I say it comes down to the game being played by scrubs and guys who are on the fringe anyway.

Gradkowski's two fumbles didn't help this one and that's where the game got away. Other than that, considering the game was the 4th preseason game, I would say reserve your prediction changes for after the starters play for four quarters.

Like Morrison said, Preseason is for the players to learn. It's where they learn how to cover their gaps and practice. The real bullets start flying on Monday night and the starters are all excited and ready.

I'm a huge Justin Fargas supporter, have been for years, but it would make some sense for the Raiders to go with Rankin and/or Russell over Fargas. That is tough for me to acknowledge BTW.

Also I think Slade Norris has chance to be our best LB'er by this time next year - outside of Thomas Howard that is.

I just saw him read, react and blast the Seattle RB in the damn hole. I hope the rest of the dudes watch in awe.

I just think Satele needs more time to absorb the offense. He seems lost out there a lot of the time. They put it on him tonight.

Frye did his best out there. I hate to see either Frye or Gradkowski get cut.

It's going to be an interesting week.

I just dread hearing all the whining on the boards this week because we "lost" again. It's so not what it's all about. This was nothing more than practice for the 2nd and third string guys. That's it.

To Me. A player that needs to make this team. is louis Rankin, every year he bust his ass in pre-season. Unlike the 2 time Commitment to Excellence award winner who is afraid of the endzone..

It's going to be interesting to see who sticks between Russell or Rankin. Or neither. I just got a feeling Russell's going to stick because he's a better special teamer and he's a much different back than the three we have. Also can play a little full back. Just watching him run, I wonder if Cable would try and give him the rock on short yardage/goal line situations. Might be the best we have in those areas.

Rankin, if cut, will be one of the toughest. Guy does all you can ask for and more. I got a feeling his curse might be that he's too similar to McFadden. A one-cut and go, don't break tons of tackles guy but picks up his yardage with his speed and breaks off the occasional long gainer. It'd be great if we could stick him on the PS again and possibly get him on the team next year if we decide to weed out Fargas.

So tough to predict what we'll do with the running back situation, but it's definitely a good problem to have.

I think Russell cemented his spot tonight and will make the team for the specific reason that he's the short yardage back that Bush has flashed at times, but hasn't been consistent at being.

Shaughnessy gave great effort and was flashing plays. Why Scott is still ahead of Jay Richardson is beyond me. they need to make that move in the next 10 days.

Also, I don't think Justin Miller will be on the 53 man roster because he's been ineffective returning kicks, whether it's because of the toe or whatever. However, brown is even worse than him at DB, so that might help him stick. Higgins and Nick Miller both make knucklehead decisions fielding kicks, but they can do an adequate job that might help ease him out the door. I'll be interested to see how that shakes out.

Cross your fingers and hope Al allows Sands to finally be cut, too. he's terrible.

Nixon definitely was flying to the ball all night. Showed some headiness too when he stayed home and dropped the qb for a loss. Its going to be tough to cut him as I think he could develop into a solid backer in the NFL. Alston has showe me nothing all pre-season. I'd be more apt to cut him and Sam to give Norris and Nixon a roster spot.

Well, I certainly wouldn't tie my expectations to this line of thinking. If you do, you're liable to be ledge-walking Monday night.

I think the squad is better than they've shown to this point, but hell, that's not saying a lot.

In my book the pre-season is also for getting up to game speed, and it doesn't look like our guys got there. I think they will, but that means doing it in games that count. Unless they're super focuses in San Diego, they're likely to have a New Orleans-like result and have to bow their backs to take the KC game.

I'd have preferred they looked more prepared by now, but if they're playing well by the end of the season... welllllll.
