Posted by Mike Florio on August 25, 2009 3:23 PM ET

The UFL's Florida Tuskers, who had more than 1,000 players show up for an open tryout on August 22, have announced 12 new additions to the preseason roster.

They are linebacker Colby Bockwoldt, defensive end Mkristo Bruce, defensive lineman Patrick Chukwurah, cornerback Curtis DeLoatch, receiver Doug Gabriel, defensive back Grant Mason, linebacker Terrence Melton, guard Gene Mruczkowski, quarterback Craig Nall, tackle Rob Pettiti, and defensive back Michael Waddell.

Most of these guys have NFL experience.

The Tuskers, coached by former Saints and Rams coach Jim Haslett, previously named 21 players who have signed with the team, including tight end Jermaine Wiggins.

It is not important who plays where in the UFL. What is important, to me anyway, is this: WHAT THE HELL IS A "TUSKER"?

Who's better? Gabriel, or Bey? Just a question. I mean, we had Gabriel and traded him away. I thought he was making progress as a play maker for the Raiders and despised the Raiders for moving him to New England.

How good would he be by now if we would have kept him in the fold? I remember some of the huge catches he would make down the sidelines. He was begining to light up. Then we gave him to NE and now he's...lost

I know he wasnt a crisp route runner type of guy, but couldn't we have trained him? He was a Raider at heart IMO. It's too bad. I like him when he was in Oakland. He had some speed.

GRIM, Great find on the YouTube, and you're right.

I was never as attached to Gabriel as you were, but I agree that if he had better coaching all along the way he would have been a more impressive player. Even his the way he set up deep routes wasn't that good, his cuts on routes were as round as you'll see on Sundays, and he took a while to hit full speed. But his attitude was good, whether starter or inactive on Sunday, and he worked hard. Nice to see he's still involved in the game, and able to make some money at it.

A Tusker is a wild boar, many of which roam wild throughout the everglades and the state of Florida.

he's from that area. Also, I think the Raiders have held on to worse players, but Gabriel had shown by his 3rd season that he was only going to be a marginal contributor because of his limited route running ability.

I'm thinking that Shell traded him because of some kind of attitude problem, which I read of again in new England, leading to their dismissal of him, when we all thought he might flourish with Brady.

Cincinnati didn't even take a flyer on him to play with their above average receiving corp, so that should tell you something. Maybe he has a bad rep around the league, deserved or otherwise, at this point in his career.

I wonder how many other Raiders, after the cuts, will be playing in the new league?

In case any of you were wondering about whatever happened to this league...
