I know he would block the playing time of a younger player, but Ellis can still get after the Qb. Adding a proven pass rusher will improve this defense. If we get rid of Burgess we have to do this. Ellis is still good.

Cowboys Cut Loose Greg Ellis
Posted by Aaron Wilson on June 2, 2009, 2:37 p.m.

Veteran outside linebacker Greg Ellis is no longer on the trading block, or on the Dallas Cowboys’ block at all.

The Cowboys announced today that they have cut Ellis, a transaction signalled last week by owner Jerry Jones when he said that Ellis’ tenure in Dallas was all but officially over.

Jones met with Ellis last week and told him not to attend an Organized Team Activity.

Ellis has registered 77 career sacks, 634 tackles, 36 tackles for losses and 197 quarterback pressures

In 2007, Ellis made it to his lone Pro Bowl as he posted a career-high 12 1/2 sacks and was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year one year removed from rupturing his Achilles’ tendon.

The New England Patriots have been linked to Ellis as a potential landing spot.

Ellis had been replaced in the Cowboys’ starting lineup by former first-round draft pick Anthony Spencer.

Actually a 4-3 end that Parcell's forced into a 3-4. Ellis was unhappy with the move thinking it would ruin his careeer.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are tossing around the idea of possibly trading or releasing veteran linebacker Greg Ellis. The veteran transitioned from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 pass rushing outside linebacker under Bill Parcells late in his career.
