I fully expect big things out of these guys this year...
1. Trevor Scott. What a steal in rd 6 last year. Six sacks in very limited duty his rookie year, coaches this offseason are drooling over this kids improvement. Look out, as he makes Burgess more tradable each day, but I can live with D-Burg and Scott as our ends.
2. Chaz Schilens- Had a strong finish to the season last year, and has had a very strong offseason so far, with Walker hurt, could be our number one WR going into the year. Atleast we will know if he can hack it against top opponents as he practices against Nam every practice, and so far it looks like he can. Great Size and speed and catches the ball well. Im VERY excited for him this year.
3. Darren McFadden- Very explosive guy who battled tough injuries from week 2 on last year, if he stays away from turf toe, he will give us that player on offense that changes the game. Even last season with the injuries I could still see he is something special
4. Mario Henderson- Dont know why, but I dont see him giving up left tackle. In fact I see him becoming a pretty good one, forcing Barnes over to right where he could flourish. Henderson has all the ability in the world, even kiffin said that, and he talked hella shit about him. he just needed to develop, and it looks like he is right infront of us. Barnes would be a betterRT than any of the RT's on our roster, most likely forcing us to cut Wife Beater green.
5. Jon Alston- Heard he put 20 pounds on, which would give him good size at 235, and he definately has ability, and can cover. I hope he takes the OLB job by the reigns and runs with it. He has been playing with the first team since mini camp, lets go jon!
6. Tommy Kelly- after the mid point of last year you could see a change in him, where his knee was finally healthy enough for him to produce, and in the last 2 games he was a force. Now having an extra offseason to strengthen the knee even more, I think he will have his best season yet, well we better hope.
7. Louis Murphy- I think he will be the Gem of the draft, he runs good routes and has very good hands, and he is fuckin fast. I know he slipped in the draft because he is a florida reciever, but I think this kid is going to impress and impress early
and last
8. Mike Mitchell- this guy has really grown on us all since that "WHAT THE FUCK" first day of the 2009 NFL draft. I dont see how anyone didnt have him on thier draft boards with the way he gets to the ball and hits people. Someone from a team Ohio was playing said he knocked a WR out cold. damn, but i think he is going to give us some really much needed run support up at the line of scrimmage and I expect to see him in the backfield alot
others who could really shine-
Shaughnessy
Jamarcus(yes I think he will be good this year, its only may)
Frantz Joseph(could push morrison outside)
Desmond Bryant

I'll sure be pulling for him to kill it this season.... Though I'd like to hear what this change was that you saw in him in the second half of the season last year....

Good list D7D. I'd add Tyvon Branch to the list, ahead of Murphy if it could only be six.

One of the genuinely exciting things about our 2009 squad is that we DO have a boatload of young guys with ... possible ... upside.
Here's hopin' a bunch of 'em shine for us.
Damn, we need it badly.

I would like to swap Branch or Mitchell for Alston, Alston isn't a starter don't care how many pounds he put on and he is a ST ace. Brown was ok there last year I think he or any other player ends up there..don't read into what happened in Mini Camp. I think they wanted to see if any one else can play there.

According to Jerry Mac, Joseph hasn't run with the one's or two's yet. Hopefully when the pads go on, the kid will show us something. Apparently that Nixon kid from BYU has looked pretty good thus far. I'm really rooting for Des Bryant but Jerry said he's looked pretty pedestrian thus far.

Barnes is Right tackle as of now.
also. Chris Johnson to have a big year, John alston bulking up solid will continue his domination at OLB 1st string. I hope to see Burgess reborn, Morrison have a very productive year. someone wake up michael Huff!!!
As for all of My Draft picks here is what I want from them!
JaMarcus Russell = pro-bowl. Zach Miller = Probowl, Mcfadden Pro-bowl.
Pushing for a DHB rookie of the year offense.
Trevor scott 10 sacks
Mario Henderson to be the Best Left tackle keep progressing

Man, there's some young potential on this team. As fans, we see it, but the haters obviously don't. Most of it is on the come. JR's improvement is key. If he can lead, these kids can all grow/win together.

SoCal Raiders Avatar- I love it!
Break out year- Give me JaMarcus Russell, Schillens and Salale on offense,
Burgess, Kelly and....i'm hoping William Joseph makes the DT rotation with Sands and Warren.
Breakout coach-DL Dwaine Board
10 of the 53 players on our roster will 'break out'?
I dunno...
If that happens we might sniff the playoffs.
I like the top two though, and if you ask any Raider fan, Trevor Scott and Chaz Schilens will make the short list for most.

Sleet- you are right it comes down to JR ,there is talent on this team. If JR wants to party and eat himself out of the job then let Garcia run the show.

Agree. Good list D7D, but this really looks to me like the list of guys we HOPE to see break out, not the guys we EXPECT to break out. If we can get a couple/few of them to be really solid performers we would be making some real progress.
I can definitely see DMac and Kelly (assuming Warren and someone else in the rotation plays solid next to him) having good bounce-back years. Hopefully Scott and Schilens continue to make progress, but not sure that they will put up anything big this year as they are probably looking at limited or part-time roles. It will be interesting to watch the bulked-up Alston this year as his size was always the problem for him in being able to crack into the LB mix. And all I know is that we need at least one of our safeties - whether it be Branch, Mitchell, Huff, or Eugene - to break-out big-time this year otherwise we are going to be in a HUGE world of hurt on D.

For the Raiders to succeed, JR's QB rating must be in the mid-80's and McFadden and/or Bush along with Henderson must have a break out year. For that to happen, Barnes or Pears must significantly play better than Green last year, and Satele at least as well as Grove. I expect Gallery and Carlisle to play better, provided we don't try to convert them into power blockers. Neal will help McFadden and Bush run long and prosper. And Higgins, DHB, and Murphy will have to play well to enable Miller to catch 70+ passes.
I'd rate Kelly, Scott and Schilens next on the list. We need a DT and DE not named Burgess to play well, and a WR to have a break out year. All we are going to get from Richardson is a workman's like performance. Warren, Sands, Joseph and dude from UCLA don't have it, and the two DE rookies (O'Shucks and Guy-Who-Sounds-Like Sleet) would really have to blow up in pre-season to enable Al to trade Burgess.
Alston, Brown, Williams and the rookie (Chuck Norris) apparently are battling at OLB. I'm curious where Joseph fits in. Somebody here has to break out if our defense is going to even be average this year. Same goes for Branch, Mitchell, Eugene, Huff, Davis and whoever else we have a safety. Morrison and Howard will need to play much better, too.

5 qs with Trevor Scott
Trevor Scott's beefing up to stop the run.
Raiders defensive end Trevor Scott is getting nothing but first team snaps this offseason, and not just because Derrick Burgess is playing stay-away as he always does.
Scott showed promise as a rookie pass rusher last season and has bulked up so he can better play against the run. He may not be an everydown player just yet, but he'll make it easy for the Raiders to let Burgess walk when his contract expires after this season.
Scott spoke with reporters last week after an OTA practice. Here's what he had to say.
Q: Biggest difference from last year?
A: Just my comfort level is so much higher. I'm not out here searching, feeling my way around with things. I don't have that mindset of, 'Oh man, I'm in the NFL now. These guys are great.' They are great, but I feel like I'm great too. Just my confidence level and playing. The older guys helping me and pushing me. I'm trying to start this season. I want to make an immediate impact and play my butt off.
Q: Thoughts on Burgess trade rumors?
A: Derrick he's a left-side player and I'm on the right side right now. As far as Derrick goes, he's a great inspiration, he's a great a leader when he's on the field. I haven't really been paying attention to what's going on. I heard a bunch of hearsay but that's all it is right now. It's just speculation. Only Derrick really knows what's going on. I try to stay away from that and let him figure things out.
Q: Working on run defense?
A: "My biggest thing in my running game, I went home in the offseason and I really hit the weights hard because I knew that was one of my biggest things. I can run fast but I really want to hone in on my run game because I want to be out making tackles. I love tackling, too. I just don't want to be looked at as, 'Trevor's out there, pass rush.' I want to be that complete D end that can do both."
Q: Does added size compromise your speed?
"All the weight I was putting on, it wasn't like it was bad weight. As I was getting stronger I was getting bigger but also I was working on my explosiveness, too, just squatting and doing all different variations of squatting and stuff because I want to be explosive off the ball. As soon as that ball moves I want to be out. If I can get up into the tackle or tight end before he gets up into me, nine times out of 10 I'm going to win."
Q: Any difference with new defensive staff?
A: "Everyone's got their different teaching philosophy and things of that nature, but overall we just really ... like during individual periods we're really honing in on shooting our hands, staying low, driving through our opponent and using our hands."
