Since there's not much going on, except for mini-camps, there are always books on the Raiders. I want to find some good reads out there. I'll suggest the book that I have:

It's called, You're Alright, It's Only a Bruise, and it was written by one of the team doctors from 1983-1990. It's a very interesting look inside the locker room, and how players were prepped for games. Some great bathroom scenes especially. It also highlights the late '80's Raiders. Currently available on Amazon.

Any other book recommendations out there?

A good read is Glenn Dickey's ...Just Win, Baby. You can probably get it used off Amazon.com. Lots of good insight about Al Davis and the organization from Dickey who was on the inside of the Raiders organization in the early years.

Also, "Snake" is a good one.

Stay away from Jim Otto's book. Terrible.

The doctor is Rob Huizenga.

It is an illuminating read, to be sure.

As for football books (not necessarily Raider books) that I found riveting:

• Bringin' the Heat -- It was written by a guy who knows nothing about football (writer of Blackhawk Down), but was thrust into the role of sports columnist the year after Jerome Brown died.

• That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It -- Written by Alex Hawkins. Fun read. Tells some good insider stories

• The League: Inside the NFL -- Written by David Harris. If you want dirt on a team, this book has it.

I thought this was a thread about Natty getting Hooked on EboniPhonics...

THE PAIN OF GLORY by Jim Otto was highly recommended by Bones...

Raiders Forever by John Lombardo has a bunch of short stories about the Glory Days..

Read "Boys will be Boys" about the cowboys dynasty of the 90's a month or two ago. Great read, even if it is about the Cowboys. And you even learn about the Raiders, such as Al tried to trade for Micheal Irvin at one point to pair with Tim Brown.

Jim McMahon's book, I think simply titled "McMahon" was one of the funniest books I've ever read. It was written right after the 85 season. Paints a funny picture of Mike Ditka for sure.

Gave me one of my favorite quotes of all time..."Happiness is Provo in the rearview mirror!".

Interesting title for a narrative DVD, "Fuck the Book." This is not a biblical reference, is it?

Funny, I just discovered the joys of Amazon, and got two books delivered recently:

They Call me Assassin by Jack Tatum. Think it cost me 5 bucks, including shipping. Fantastic read, and hard to find. Raider fans should all read this book. I read it years ago, and can't wait to go through it again.

The other, was recommended to me by a friend. The Draft, by Pete Williams. Covers some players, including Taj Hawthorne, coaches, agents, and front office people from various teams before the 2005 draft. Unreal detail, and really goes into detail about combine prep, UDFA's, the hunt for an agent, etc. If you are interested in the draft, it is a MUST read.

I liked parts of Assassin, but I thought Tatum was incredibly self-indulgent in it. Came off as quite an a-hole to me.
