X, glad you are happy. And we all hope that you are right that he will pan out. But this guy smells of Troy Williamson and Ashlie Lelie. Stanford Routt was the fastest db to come out three years ago and we are still waiting for him to contribute. A 40 time doesn't make for a football player. Time will tell, but this is a sad day to be a Raider fan. And the real sad thing is that even if he does pan out to be a star -- its still a lousy pick because we could have had Bey and another player via a trade down.

X,

You are the only one in America that is actually happy with this pick (besides DHB and his family). Enjoy the moment because it will be the last happy moment this franchise has for at least the next two years. We just set our franchise back at least two years with this collossal blunder. God, I am sick to my stomach and am no longer looking forward to the season beginning. I'm just hoping I can manage to get through the constant Al Davis/Raider bashing without losing it.

Worst draft pick in recent memory. We could have traded down and still got this bust for a lot less money. At least then it wouldn't cost us as much as it will not to cut him in 3 years.

We don't know if we set anything back. We won't know until we actually see DHB play pro football. It was a reach but it may not be a set back.

yEA mAN, mad props for the early pick, I would of traded for almost any deal to still get this guy, but no Al stuck to his roots, SPEEDKILLS, da man outwide
can stretch the field.
No doubt we've now got the biggest, fastest trio on offense to POTENTially rule the NFL....?
IF AL wants ALGETS, no matter the price........
I'm looking forward to a strong #2 pick.........
check back later............................................. .M

The problem with that is that we HAVE seen DHB play football...and he didn't do that well at all at the college level. What makes people think that he will actually fare better against better competition? A guy that is supposedly that gifted should have dominated the conference he was in...regardless of how good/bad the QB was. Remember all those years that Tim Brown had journeymen throwing to him? He still managed to catch the damn ball and make plays. Hell, he was our only offensive threat for a number of years and he would still get damn near 100 catches and over 1,200 yards. So I ain't buying the argument that teams could focus on him and that's why he didn't have the stats. Barden was the only threat for his team too but he still managed to produce...AND he didn't exactly have an all-pro QB throwing to him either.

Lookin forward to some positive, if you got it, I wanna hear it.

Other than making big holes for Schilens, Miller, & McFadden I don't know how we justify the big $d$o$l$l$a$r$$ spent.........

Are Big 12 defenses that much better than ACC defenses?

Texas Tech threw the ball 65 times per game. Maryland threw it 29

29 times...that's still quite a bit. Enough to where DHB shouldn't have had any games, let alone 2, that he did not catch a single pass. That is simply unheard of to have a number 1 receiver with his supposed skills to get through an entire game with ZERO receptions!

X,

While you're at it, please offer up an explanation (don't give me "the QB sucks" garbage) of how DHB could get through entire games where he did not catch a single pass. NOT ONE SINGLE PASS!!!

There is not one thing you can say that will outweigh his startling lack of production. He is simply another track guy that is trying to play football. We've already had those guys...the problem now is that we have to pay this one a ton of money.

Sorry bro...I will never be on board with this pick.

Double Coverage. and a coushin.. If you remember the horriable 06 season how moss got doubled even trippled every play because that was all we had..

Thats what bey went through thats why people bring up the moss comparisions. the screen passes where there because of that. 1 on 1 Bey was eating people up. from Alphonso smith to matcho harris and Myron Rolle. bey was ripping them a new ass hole in 1 on 1. so the majority of beys career he was doubled team. when he wasnt he was scoring.

after the job he did to Mami in 06 teams saw it was best to double bey and force the run first terps to do just so.. also No quarterback. Beys Quarterbacks works at mcdonalds M. you will never see them in a draft. so with bey you get a beast and a worker..

Sorry bro...ain't buying that one either. All the great ones get double (and triple) covered...and they still manage to beat the coverage and make plays. As for having a poor QB...see my previous argument regarding R. Barden. He had a crappy QB and still managed to produce...even when the entire stadium knew the ball was going to him. Great players produce regardless...DHB never produced.

I hate this pick.

But you know what I hate most about it? The kid can't win unless both Crabtree and Maclin are spectacular failures.

People have just already made up their minds. If DHB becomes a solid, 1,000-yard-a-year guy, it won't be enough if Crabtree or Maclin are performing well.

True dat. He's almost in a no-win situation. He will always be compared to those guys and because he will make more money he will have to justify that by having better numbers.

But really, if he earns his pay, we have no business comparing him to anyone else. If he busts, be pissed. If he's good, be happy.

There's simply no way of knowing how anyone else would do in Oakland. We WILL KNOW how DHB does.

It is not the players fault where he gets drafted, but he may well suffer because of it. Personally I can separate my disliking the pick from the player. It seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and is prepared to work so I hope he can develop the areas of his game that he needs to and become a success.

When it happens, this day comments will be forgotten. Who cares or even remembers what was said when Huff was taken? Nobody takes responsibility now. In the meantime losing seasons come and go...

The Raiders had lots of high picks since the Gruden deal, still they' haven't been able to translate it into a solid roster. A few gems lika Asomugha don't justify the decisions Al made.

Even McFadden and Russell have a way to go developing into effective pro players.

Bey not only will have play at a decent level, he has to outplay Maclin and Crabtree; heavy burden indeed.

I wish Hayward-Bey the best, but I'm skeptical. And for the last 7 years, it has been the most sane standpoint.

Just remember this: Everyone thought that the Colts were insane when they passed up a once in a lifetime talent like Ricky Williams in order to "reach" for Edgerrin James.

I don't think that's the best example as James had a hell of a college career in his own right. I think the reach would be much more palatable to us if Bey had shown more production in college. Most of us are put off by the fact that Bey, for all his measurables, didn't show much improvement throughout his college career and didn't come close to approaching anything that could be considered dominating. I know we all hope he turns out to be the player that the Raiders envision but I don't think many of us holding our breaths.
