The following is a list of projected compensatory picks for the upcoming draft. As the NFL has never leaked their formula for compensatory picks, the guy who put this list together is always very accurate. The official list will be unveiled after the owners meetings at the end of this week. Note that the Raiders do not have a pick because a team cannot be awarded a compensatory pick if they signed more players than they lost.

The legend grows.

I think comp. picks are BS. It is a way for owners to de-value FAs. Teams have incentive NOT TO SIGN their FA players, becuase they'll get a comp. pick.

Al could have gotten 2 extra 3rd round picks next year if he choose not to sign Aso and Lechler. Cheap owners voted this rule in -- likely the same ones who don't spend to the cap limit to begin with.

If anything, they should never be higher than a 4th round pick.

Al's signings last year not only were bad, cost us a fortune, but resulted in some serious picks for other teams. This system is upside down. Given how many FA bust, no compensation should be paid until the player makes the roster the following year. It certainly shouldn't be based just on $$$. Well, at least Al should get a 5th round pick for Grove.

I think you only get comp'd for losing a FA. NOT for someone you cut, waive, or trade.

You are correct. Also, it's worth noting that if you were to lose 3 free agents and signed 3 that were released then you would actually get compensated for all 3 FA's that you lost as released players don't count against you. I read an article a week or so ago about how Belichick was building his pool of picks for next year because they have only signed guys that have been released...not actual FA's.

Patriots are playing that game like a fiddle.

This is why it is important to have a solid GM!
