Peppers on that defense would be sick. I get that Carolina would prefer to trade him out of the NFC, but to NE? With Seymore, Wilfolk and Peppers, playing with A. Thomas, talk about your fearsome foursome.

Somebody in the AFC East has to offer something more. Make NE settle for Jason Taylor.

Julius Peppers-DL- Panthers Mar. 16 - 3:42 pm et

NFL.com's Vic Carucci reports that the Patriots are "likely" to execute a trade for Panthers franchise player Julius Peppers.

New England reportedly plans to deal the No. 34 overall pick -- acquired for Matt Cassel -- for Peppers. Peppers would play opposite OLB Adalius Thomas, giving them an imposing edge presence. A contract would appear to be the significant hurdle left. The two sides should talk at the upcoming owner's meetings, but the NFL Draft would be the true deadline for a deal.

I hate the Patsies, but Belichick is clearly without peer right now...

Like I said in the other thread, they like Rey Maualuga to pair inside with Mayo to go with Adalius Thomas and Peppers outside... Peppers and Thomas are both athletic enough to do what Belichick asks of his OLB's in that 52 defense he runs as far as short flat coverages, but now what he does is match Peppers against a RB trying to block him instead of an OT...

They're turning a QB they had no use for into Julius Peppers :shakehead:

Must be nice to have the kind of confidence in their lead guy as Pats fans have...

Getsome, are you a/k/a get-a-clue?

Anything that might impede the Raiders' objective of making the playoffs and winning the SuperBowl is relevant. Anybody playing, or potentially playing for a rival (which, to me, is KC, Donks, Dolts, and the two organizations that stole SuperBowls from us, Pitts and NE) is relevant. Finally, we NEED a DE. The problem, Peppers likely has a no trade clause or at least the ability to veto any trade due to the size of his contract, and the need for a new team to restructure if a trade were to happen.

Next time I won't add 2 and 2 for you.

Can't remember who asked about "why only a 2nd" .. the Panthers said that they would rather get a high 2nd than a 1st rounder as it would cost less and still bring a quality player in return. Which also makes sense now on why NE choose to go with the KC trade rather than the other route that would have landed them a first rnd pick..

What a buncgh of cheap bastards. Its about winning. Could you imagine Al saying that? Its not too surprising, though. Look at how many teams don't spend to the cap. What a joke. NE gave away Cassell to the Chefs (but screwed the Donks in the process). Now, the Jags are going to give away Peppers to NE for a song? Because they DON'T want a better offer?

here is another little blurb about it...

Carucci also reports that NFL sources told him the Panthers are happy to get a second-round pick for Peppers, in part because it is less expensive than signing a first-rounder.

That is telling in this sense: If the Patriots' interest in Peppers was serious before they traded Matt Cassel to the Chiefs for the 34th pick in this year's draft, it could go a long way toward explaining why they didn't hold out for a first-rounder in exchange for the quarterback.

If I were a [Panthers] fan, I'd be pissed. It is one thing to say that about a Top 5 pick. I've even heard it said with a Top 10 pick. But after that, you're a loser if you would prefer a 2nd round pick over a 1st round pick.

[Thanks RZ]

isn't this the general NFL portion of the site? I heard this on the radio and said oh crap. Pats are going to be ferocious this year. They added Galloway to the WR mix and Fred Taylor at RB-- two great football players with their last shot at ring. Plus the Pats are stocked with draft picks to I think. Damn i hate that team but you got to respect the way they are run.

But, he's always got a couple of lower round ones and a few twos and threes. That's how you build a good football team in today's NFL. Right AL?

Fumble. ;)

I just hate this guy. He works around the clock. He knows what he's doing. And he has no mercy (see Denver). Poili (KC) must have something on him to get Cassell so cheap.

BELICHICK SKIPPING LEAGUE MEETINGS

Posted by Mike Florio on March 20, 2009, 5:33 p.m.
Head coaches typically attend the annual league meetings in March.

This year, Pats coach Bill Belichick won’t be there, according to Tom Curran of NBCSports.com.

Per Curran, Belichick has been busy with draft preparation given extensive turnover within the front office and coaching staff. Belichick, the rest of the coaching staff, and director of player personnel Nick Cesario have been on the road for the past two weeks, and they’ll head back to Foxborough on Monday night to continue hammering out a draft board.

At least the owners won’t have to listen to any of Belichick’s singing.

Yeah he's good to hate on. We got fucked in the snow that got them started on their way. The guy just seems to make move after move that works out great for them. He's a first class dick but you have to tip your hat to him in a round-a-bout way. :o
