NFL Network: Knapp to Seattle
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at 1:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.
A move in the works for nearly a year has come to fruition according to the NFL Network, with Adam Schefter reporting Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will be offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks under Jim Mora.
At last year’s scouting combine, when Lane Kiffin and Al Davis were feuding, and Mora already penciled in as the replacement for Mike Holmgren, there was rampant speculation among coaches and executives throughout the league that Knapp, Tom Cable and Tom Rathman all had standing offers to join Mora’s staff.
According to Cable, the contracts of Raiders coaches don’t expire until Jan. 13 _ wide receivers coach James Lofton is believed to be the only coach under contract for 2009 _ although it’s conceivable Knapp was freed early and that other Oakland assistants could have negotiated new deals.
Rathman has been speculated as a possibility for offensive coordinator of the 49ers, while Cable hopes to be named Raiders head coach. Given that Cable took play-calling duties from Knapp and handled them himself following the Atlanta game, it’s not known how that would affect the dyanamic of Cable joining the Seahawks should things not work out in Oakland.
In other news, media outlets are reporting Eric Mangini is closing in on the head coaching job in Cleveland, which could be a potential landing place for Raiders defensive coodinator Rob Ryan. When Ryan, at the behest of Kiffin, offered his resignation a year ago, he was expected to join Mangini’s staff with the New York Jets as defensive coordiantor.
Ryan could also figure in the plans of his brother Rex, should Rex Ryan receive an offer to become a head coach once the Baltimore Ravens season concludes.
One Raiders coach who could be a hot commodity is special teams coach Brian Schneider, whose return and coverage units were the best the Raiders have had since they returned to Oakland in 1995.
With Knapp gone, and Cable and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo both in the last year of their deals, the Raiders run the risk of having all three coaches who dealt with JaMarcus Russell off the staff in 2009.
DiFilippo and Schneider were both Kiffin recommendations, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they were pursued at Tennessee.
One thing’s for sure _ if DeFilippo would have left the Raiders in-season to join Kiffin, he probably wouldn’t have called home to tell his dad about it.
Gene DeFilippo is the Boston College athletic director who fired coach Jeff Jagodzinski for interviewing with the Jets because he didn’t first ask permission.

I will be pissed off if we let him go.
Does anyone else wake up 3am in the morning in a cold sweat screaming "Paul Hackett NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Rathman Back In San Fran
The National Football Post has just been informed that former San Francisco 49ers running back Tom Rathman has been named the new running backs coach for the 49ers.
Rathman was the running backs coach for the Detroit Lions from 2003-2005. In addition, he spent the past two seasons coaching the running backs for the Oakland Raiders (2007-2008).
In 1989, Rathman led all NFL running backs in receptions (73) and yards (616) while playing for the San Francisco 49ers.

We're being raided!
i posted on this a while ago
BUT
all the contracts were expected to expire on Jan 13th
Which means we would have had to release Rathman/Knapp in order for them to have been signed away.

I've heard coaching rumors from every team except the Raiders....
And all I've read is Al Davis doesnt want to wait and wants to get this done soon...
well WTF? Him and Cable haven't even talked yet, what's taking so long?

Well if you believe in WillisdaRaider, supposedly he said a month ago that Al was going to totally clean house as far as coaches and players go.... I dunno if that two game winning "streak" changed anything with that....
I wouldn't mind taking a look at the Browns OC that got let go in the coaching change to Mangini... Jeff Jagodzinski is also a prospect, especially since he also learned the ZBS from Alex Gibbs....
But yeah, it would be nice if our Front Office got off their collective ass... If Al was going to keep Cable, I would think he would have done it by now...
