View Full Version : If Al truely wants the Raiders to...
Continue in excellence well after he's gone
He needs to drop every penny he can afford to get The Spitter
Give him cash and 10% of the team. Let the Spitter and Troy Aikman who is one of the minority owners of the 20% Al sold last year run this team
Aikman and Cowher coaching and drafting, with what we have in place now will be serious contenders in 2 years
Sit back Al... get a couple hookas in Mexico.. and watch your team win.. Stay outta the bad press and when you finally take that dirt nap Al....
Rest assured.. Your beloved Raiders will continue to be one of the best organizations in the history of the NFL if'n ya take my advice
Go down a winner Al... Not the foolish senile crusty asshole you are

AIKMAN DOESN’T OWN ANY PORTION OF THE RAIDERS
Posted by Mike Florio on September 23, 2008, 9:39 p.m.
In response to a published report from earlier this month suggesting that Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman owns a minority stake in the Raiders, we’ve learned that Aikman had no interest, directly or indirectly, in the team.
Last year, a 20-percent stake in the team was sold to a group of investors. Aikman wasn’t one of them.
Under the deal, the minority owners have no authority whatsoever regarding the operation of the team.
Meanwhile, a media source in the Bay Area tells us that the Raiders seem to be on track for a sellout of their home venue for Sunday’s game against the Chargers. So the turmoil engulfing coach Lane Kiffin apparently isn’t affecting fan interest, yet.

Meanwhile, a media source in the Bay Area tells us that the Raiders seem to be on track for a sellout of their home venue for Sunday’s game against the Chargers.Therein lays the problem. With all the complaining about Al Davis, the team losing at a record pace, the shitty condition of the Coliseum and the circus surrounding the head coach, the fans don't get it. They continue to support the very thing they claim to hate. And I'll take my turn in the barrel for buying that goddamn jacket a couple of weeks ago. Guess I don't get it either. :spank:
What we need, however, is a few home games with about 20,000 fans in the seats. That is the message that needs to be sent. But then Al would just blame that on somebody else too. We're fucked.

Unfortunately aside from the big money and control issues, Cower is also a Marty Schottenheimer protege... I doubt Bill would spit on Marty by taking a gig with the team Marty absolutely despises... The real bad news is things are lining up perfectly for Cower to return to his Arrowhead roots with a GM/HC position with the Chiefs...
It's been said that Mark Davis wants no part of the day to day operations when he takes over, which means a GM will likely be hired... The downside is it figures to be someone with Raider roots, likely someone like Matt Millen...
I'm hoping against hope that Al is getting tired of being the lightning rod of everything that is wrong with the Raiders and decides now is the time to get a general manager in place that will help ease the transition to his kid in the next few years... Maybe Jim Fassell since apparently Al respects him...

It can't be Matt Millen.
It ... just ... can't ... be.

Come on man, you know we were ALL thinking it when we heard he was pink slipped...
At least we know we'd have our WR problem solved after three or four drafts... :p

Not happening the way I see it. Until Al either dies or is totally incapacitated I think we're stuck with him and his greatness of the Raiders quips. :banghead:

Since 1986 - 22 seasons - we have won the division only 3 times, we have had a winning season only 7 times, a losing season 10 times, and 1 Super Bowl appearance. In the previous 22 seasons , we won the division/conference 12 times, had a winning season 20 times, a losing season only twice, and made 4 Super Bowl appearances with 3 Super Bowl Championships. This is a story of two different organizations. Seriously, what the heck happened in the mid-80s? What major changes in the league did we not adapt to like other teams? Did Al have an unreported stroke? The commitment to excellence seems to have died a long time ago. How many die hard Raider fans exist because of what the Raiders did since 1986?
It is time for a thorough house cleaning - including Al taking on the mere role of silent, but revered figure head owner at best. We can only hope if/when that happens the new regime will have the ability to get this team close to those teams between 1963-1985. What are the chances of that? (There aren't likely to be many who can nail it like Al did in his prime.) And how long will it take.

What happened? We had like 8 HOF players on our roster. We have zero now. Those great players made up for a lot of shitty coaching and a lot of mistakes on draft day. We don't have that luxury any longer. Plus players IMO were a lot different in the 70's. DeAngelo Hall or Lester Hayes? Big difference in attitude, work ethic etc. That's another huge difference.
The way I see it Al got away with a lot of stuff that was covered up by the great players. In the end, players win games. Our set of players need a lot more "coaching" these days and they not getting it. That's not helping either. The game is different. Al is the same. His reclamation projects are flopping more than dominating. Big difference.
