With Huff at FS, How good do you expect him to be this year. Though the preseason is a hard thing to use as an idea, I think he may be a big deal this year. I mean even in preseason how often have we seen a Safety recovering with speed on routes that were originally one on one(sorry Stu)?
I know that he's been busted on continuously, especially by some who wanted Leinart instead. So what does he need to do this year for anyone to be satisfied with him at FS?.

I think he's gonna be a lot better. It's a much more natural position for him. Clearly he seems to feel more comfortable. I think we'll see him become more of a play maker. The 7th pick in the entire draft? well not so sure about that. He's no Ed Reed. At least no yet. :D
I expect Huff to have a great season playing his natural position of FS vs SS. No matter how you slice it, Wilson/Huff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Huff/Stu/Eugene

We'll see huge improvement in our safety play and I'm looking forward to it. The last few years was so frustrating watching that mess.

He showed some ability in the preseason to be a ballhawk.Hopefully he can be one in the regular season. At the very least he'll be better than Stu, especially when it comes to tackling.
Im thinking upper echelon, not elite.
You've got the elite safeties like Reed, Polamalu, Sanders, Adrian Wilson, and Landry (I think this year) and then he'll be in that next group.
I whined for him to be at FS since the day he was drafted, now he gets to show all of us what he can do.

He is going to have a break-out year. I have said that every year and I do have 2 Huff jersey's in my closet... 5 picks.

I know i'm putting alot of [ressure on him, but I expect Elite. He understands the pro game in his 3rd year and is now in what he considers his natural position. His Speed will be a bigger deal than his tackling. Stu's biggest problem was getting back late more so than the tackling. In fact he could've survived the tackling if he coulda got to the ball quicker.
No, Stu just sucked.
Tackling was an issue, getting there late was an issue, taking poor angles was an issue.
I think a lot of that will be rectified with Wilson and Huff.

His bad angles and being late to plays was the biggest problem. Doesnt mean tackling wasn't, but i think he keeps a job if he could have made better recoveries and took better angles on passes. This is an area i expect Huff to excel in.
I won't argue with you, but I will add one thing: I don't see any way possible that he keeps his job on our team (Or any other apparently) We had been looking to replace him for how many seasons?
Guys like Eugene, Darius and Wilson werent brought in to take Huff's spot in the secondary, LOL.

I expect him to be better at FS than either Vince Young or Matt Leinart are at QB.
That's a pretty low standard to have, sure, but it's something.
Lol.
Matt Cassel, Leinarts backup at USC could end up having way better stats than Leinart this season. And that is sad.

the only thing that scares me is that if this defensive scheme begins to mirror that of the years past, he may be quickly labeled a bust and ran out of town
if he gets stuck in the shitty stu role playing centerfield and having to make solo tackles 8 yards off the line, he may be in trouble
but in a normal scheme, with regular blitzes, mediocre gap control and a little freedom to raom and make plays, i think he can be close to elite
im hoping for a big year, but i'd settle for solid mistake free play

He was in a shitty Stu role when he intercepted Leinart. The difference is he had the speed to recover. He'll be in ceneter field and his speed will be his best asset. How many one on one tackles he has to make will depend the rest of the guys in front of him. I do think he'll benefit from more blitzes this year. But I also expect plenty of center field activity too.
