Well I thought so. The Sonics were pretenders in 2004/2005. They had the dream season last year where everything went right. The personnel gelled with the coach and they did what nobody even considered -- they won 52 games.
New season. Same 'ol Sonics. They got problems. Bob Weis is just a lousy coach IMO. the Sonics organization elevated him to head coach for one reason and one reason only -- he came CHEAP. they are getting exactly what they paid for.
Thoughts?

The Sonics stink. Great job by them letting Nate McMillan walk and hiring an assistant for cheap. Bob Weiss is a very nice man and he might have a great work ethic, but it does not mean that he is a great coach. He did not do much as coach of the Hawks, Spurs, or Clippers. He is nothing more than a career assistant coach who does scouting, writing notes, and keeping tracks of timeouts and all.
I never knew why the Sonics front office was not sold on Nate. The guy is a darn good coach. I think he has done a great job in Portland so far. The Blazers play hard and the kids are developing. You could not have made a case for the Blazers in the last few years. I think Nate has done a good job getting the most out of Darius Miles's talent which has been a hard task for Darius's previous coaches. The thing I love about Nate besides his work ethic is his attention to defense. Sonics got guys who have talent, but he wanted those guys to use that talent on defense. They just blew it letting Nate go.
I am so glad Dwane Casey took the Timberwolves head coaching job before Nate made his decision to go to Portland. You know darn well that Dwane would have been the coach instead of Bob Weiss. I don't think the Sonics saw Nate leaving coming because had they knew about it, they would not have let Dwane leave to Minnesota. BTW, I love Dwane as the head coach. I like what he is doing so far in Minnesota.
Bad job by the Sonics all around. I am still wondering why they let George Karl walk in 1998. Sure he may have worn out his welcome by turning of his bosses by ripping them in the media, but you don't let a guy like him walk out. He can flat-out coach.

I think the bottom line is that the Starbucks dude would like to get rid of the Sonics. I think he has tired of his "toy" and is trying to position them for a sale. Trouble is he screwed the pooch. Letting McMillian get out of town was a bad move. Now they'll be in the draft lottery again and their value is somewhat uncertain. :o
