I'd be completely surprised if we didn't go into the season with McFadden, Bush, and Fargas at runningback with Oren Oneal and Justin Griffith at fullback.

I was actually just about to start a thread mentioning that two players out of Bush, Rhodes, Jordan, Oneal, and Griffith were going to be cut. Looks like it's going to be Rhodes and Jordan.

We couldn't even get a 7th round pick for him?

Dude had 2 100-yard games in 2 starts, and had a big game in the Super Bowl two years ago.

Seems like SOMEONE would have wanted him.

That makes sense but it is the Raiders we are talking about so probably cut Bush & keep Jordan lol

I might be wrong, but Im thinking Lamont wont be cut until after June 2 as I think the cap hit lessens.....I would of rather kept Rhodes and just used him as one of our full time Return guys and ST player and depth.

It wouldn't surprise me if he ended back with the Colts....Of course John Gruden, Shannarat will give a looksy and I would think the Lions could use him...Hell maybe even Norvell talks to him about backing up LT?

Talk about a bad experience??? Going from winning the SB, signing a big contract with the Raiders, thinking you'll start, suspended for 4 weeks and not sniffing the field until week 13 and then getting cut.....

There were rumors that Rhodes didn't exactly endure himself to Tom Rathman, so this may be a case of trying to keep a guy that attitude wise may not be the best influence, away from Mac Daddy... Rhodes is almost 30 and an incident away from a full year suspension, so I don't know if he had any trade value...

RHODES OUT IN OAKLAND
Posted by Mike Florio on April 28, 2008, 5:01 p.m.

Two days after the Oakland Raiders added Darren McFadden to a crowded house at tailback, the Raiders have thinned the ranks by dumping Dominic Rhodes, according to John Clayton of ESPN.

Rhodes was signed as a free agent in 2007, not long after a DUI arrest that involved Rhodes allegedly whizzing in his own pants in the back seat of the squad car.

Other tailbacks on the roster include Justin Fargas, LaMont Jordan, Michael Bush, and Adimchinobi (gesundheit) Echemandu (gesundheit).

There were rumors that the Raiders were trying to trade Jordan and Rhodes during the 2007 season, and that owner Al Davis didn’t want to cut either of them due to concerns that they’d land in Denver.

Rhodes won a Super Bowl title with the Colts in February 2007, and arguably deserved serious consideration for the MVP award. With Kenton Keith recently arrested, it’ll be interesting to see if the Colts show interest in bringing Rhodes back.

And he took a pay cut!

Teams wont trade for a player who will most likely be cut. We wont ditch DMC, Farags or Bush so why waste a pick.

Apparently we had to release someone in order to get under the cap... That may also account for the delay in the rumored Grady Jackson signing... Signing Aso longterm and clipping another couple of spare parts would free up some room as well...

Rhodes is odd man out after Raiders draft McFadden

By John Clayton
ESPN.com

The Oakland Raiders notified halfback Dominic Rhodes that he is being released.

The move wasn't much of a surprise. The Raiders invested the fourth pick in the first round of the NFL draft on halfback Darren McFadden. With McFadden, Michael Bush, Justin Fargas and LaMont Jordan under contract, someone had to be the odd man out, and it turned out to be Rhodes.

The salary cap was behind Rhodes' release. When the Raiders traded cornerback Fabian Washington to Baltimore Sunday, they took a $1.093,750 cap hit, putting them over the salary cap.

Rhodes had a $1.75 million salary, enough to put the Raiders back under the cap once he was released.

Rhodes, 29, signed a two-year contract with the Raiders last year. He was suspended for four games last season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, and ended up rushing for only 302 yards on 75 carries.

I'm guessing rhodes may have said "i want out immediately" after the draft and we obliged since he was a cap issue. I'm sure wants an asap out too, but like someone said, not until june.

So our qb will be young, our rb core will be supremely young too with fargas and griffith as the vets. weird.

Wow so we gave up money too basically. nasty trade.

this move makes me worry

obviously Lamont is on hsi way out, leaving us with Bush, Fargas and DMC

Fargas has been known to break, tear or pull something at sometime over 16 games and Bush hasnt taken a hit in a very long time

hopefully Bush is healthy and we keep a guy like Etch on the roster (he looked nasty in this scheme last preseason)

It makes me worry that LaMont might actually restructure again and manage to keep his roster spot, which would really suck because I don't want his no-trying ass to influence McFadden in any way.

im almost certain Lamont wants out just as bad as we want him gone

he knows he isnt going to sniff that money, and if he were down for the team, he would have restructured before the free agency period, IMO

im sure he'll be gone

Im fine with DMC/Fargas/Bush/Echemandu.

Lets cut LJ, save a couple more million and get DMC in camp!!

I do however, feel bad for Dominic Rhodes. Didnt complain about not playing at all, took a pay cut to STAY and now he's on the streer. Thats a dirt shute move.

Unless you believe we could have got a 2nd from somebody, it probably didn't make much of a difference whether we got the Ravens 3rd or 4th round pick... Their 3rd round pick was pick 99... Since we traded up to pick 100 to get Tyvon Branch, you can probably conclude we would have taken him at 99 and then still grabbed a project WR with our own 4th round pick...

If I had my choice, I would have preferred trading Fabs for a depth type player... Maybe Quinn Sypniewski to give us a big blocking TE instead of that 4th.... Maybe even call the Giants and trade midget for midget players that haven't lived up to expectations: Fabs for Sinorice Moss...

We had to do it i suppose. Just hurts seeing another team benefit off us again after the Moss trade. Good point about the picks tho. I think Fabian will tun out to be a decent CB who tackles like Deon Sanders grandmom
