We need DE's, DT's, WR's and more OL.

Pretty much the same as last week, but we have a couple extra pieces.

through the draft we'll get another starter at DT, DE, or OL
and possibly another at DT, DE, WR, or OL with our first 2 round picks. that leaves some depth signings or some of our current guys showing enough.

Agreed.

As of March 4th, 2008 we are officially better. On paper.

I hope Gholston/Long can bring the heat, baby!!!

I'd be more than happy with a Jake Long-Merlin/Campbell day one.

Looking at that depth chart, I have to think C. Long and Gholston are 1-2 on the big board.

Still got a long ways to go it seems...

I don't know how much money we've got left to spend and there's not a whole lot left in free agency...

I imagine we'll try and add a third down pass rusher through free agency, maybe someone like ND Kalu or James Hall who would be accepting of the limited role... Maybe even transition another LB like a Chaun Thompson/Rosey Colvin/ Darryl Blackstock/Kendrell Bell into the pass rushing role like we did with Clemons...

Another DT or two...

Center...

3rd QB...

I'd like to trade down. I know, everyone says this, but I normally do not. I'd love to trade down to 8 or 9 and get another 2nd rounder in the process. If someone is really 'jonesing' for a particular player, it could happen....

We just have so many holes at DT, DE, OT, C, WR and OLB that we need as many Day-1 picks as possible.

Yup. On most days, I'm wanting us to go DL with our first two picks, but I think we have a bunch of garbage along our O-line, regardless of the rushing numbers last year. They played hard, but Tom Cable's value should be clear to Al Davis (are you listening?).

With what is essentially a rookie at QB, I'd like to give this guy some 'Hogs' up front to make his job a bit easier. I can certainly understand the logic behind a selection. Big time.

I'm really hating our WR depth.

Really.

Higgins our #3?? We're fucked.

Higgins was a third-round pick and he's entering his second year.

I don't see what's so bad about that being the No. 3 WR. It's not like he's starting.

Tons of receivers do squat as rookies, then prove they're worthy of increased workload as second-year players, and really break out in their third year.

Why, even the great Bernard Berrian managed only 28 catches in his first 27 games, then was inserted into the starting lineup (boy, were the Bears fucked, eh?) and had 51-775-6 for the NFC champs.

Whaaaa?? After you get pass Curry's two torn Achilles, Javon's three knee injuries and Higgins Stepper like waif frame, we're golden man, golden... http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/crackhead.gif

Considering we also currently only have two DE's on the roster, at the very least, we may want to give the Mike Rucker/James Hall/ND Kalu/Greg Spires/Al Wallace/Darrien Scott types a call...

I actually think Harris and Hendo will compete (preferably with a draftpick) for LT, and McQuistan and Green will play RT.

We HAVE to sign Newberry, to continue the OL's development.

I don't think Newberry is going anywhere. He wanted to come to Oakland and he'll remain a Raider. Another one year incentive laden deal is just what the doctor ordered.

Well at least you got them in the same paragraph. The same sentence would have been more appropriate. Wanna try again?

Well I've been lobbying for drafting a center or at the very least picking up a veteran like Hartwig or Casey Wiegman but if Newberry stays healthy, he's probably our best option right now.

The biggest problem we have at center is we really can't convert someone on the quick. If all the guy had to do was jam the ball up to his taint, no problemo. But our center has to toss the shotgun snap too. So whoever gets the gig has gotta have some serious reps and be confident. That doesn't make grabbing one a snap.

You're right though, Newberry is probably the best option again.

A Little look at the NEW WR Depth we now have

http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/21547.html

In the past two weeks, the Oakland Raiders have brought $57 million to the bargaining table to shore up a thinning wide receiving corps.

About 96 percent of that money went to ex-Denver Broncos pass catcher Javon Walker on March 6, who will be paid $55 million over the next six years, $16 million of which is guaranteed within the first two years of the deal.

The remaining $2 million was spent Wednesday on former Panthers wideout Drew Carter, who will look to build off of the career year he enjoyed in 2007 (517 yards and four TDs).

With the 28-year-old Ronald Curry already in the fold, then, it's not likely that Oakland spends any more money building up its receiving corps via free agency.

Let's take a look at the remaining under-contract wideouts the Raiders have left and can look to next season.

Drisan James: The 23-year-old has never caught a pass in the NFL, but made his name with Boise State by helping the Broncos rally to beat Oklahoma, 43-42, in overtime in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. James caught a 15-yard pass on fourth and 18 with seven seconds left in regulation and then pitched the ball to teammate Jerard Rabb, who raced 50 yards down the sideline to send the game into overtime. Boise State went on to stun the Sooners in one of the most memorable finishes in NCAA football history.

Since then, however, James has spent time with the Bears and Raiders, but he has never seen the field. The 5-foot-11, 186-pounder certainly possesses enough speed (4.52 in the 40) and athleticism to get the job done, but he needs to work on improving his route running and hands before being considered for serious playing time.

Johnnie Lee Higgins: Higgins' rookie season with the Raiders was certainly something to forget. The third-round pick caught just six passes all season for 47 yards, and managed to fumble the ball four times, losing two.

There's no doubt, however, that the 24-year-old Higgins possesses the ability to make the big play. The 185-pounder -- who ran a 4.48 40-yard dash in '07 -- hauled in 82 receptions for 1,320 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior in 2006, earning first team All-Conference USA honors. Of all the remaining receivers under contract the Raiders have, you'd expect Higgins to be the one whom coaches most rely on next season.

Todd Watkins: The 24-year-old Watkins, who spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals, has never caught a pass in the NFL but hauled in 101 passes for 1,720 yards and 15 touchdowns in his last two years with BYU.

Like many of the Raiders' young wideouts, Watkins is an untested but intriguing prospect. At 6-3, 191 pounds, he possesses good size, but he also has good speed (4.45 40-yard dash) and strength. Still, if the unproven WR can somehow make his way onto the roster, don't expect much in terms of catches and yardage.

Will Buchanon: The 6-3 Buchanon was no college all-star by any means, catching all of four passes in his four years with USC. The 24-year-old, however, broke into the scene two preseasons ago under the Art Shell regime. Since then, though, he's been released by the Raiders, picked up by the Giants, cut, grabbed by the Chiefs, and then cut again. Now he's landed back on his feet with Oakland, where it all started.

Buchanon has shown that he can make acrobatic catches and, because of that ability, emerged as a fan favorite early in 2006. He's also very versatile (used as both a defensive back and wide receiver in college) and has deceiving speed. Buchanon ran the 40 in 4.38 seconds during USC's pro day festivities in '06 -- just five-hundredths of a second off teammate Reggie Bush's recorded time, who was drafted second overall that year. Oh, and Buchanon has actually caught a ball in the NFL

SORRY NO MENTION OF MCFOY OR DWIGHT?
Is Tim still on team? Or is he a FA?

Seems unthinkable that McQuistan would go from being our best tackle (admittedly not saying much) to a reserve guard.

i think he's in competition at both T spots. But it looked unbalanced with no reserve G.

also, im pretty sure Curry will be the flanker and Javon will be the split end

inless he can get a clean break off the line, Curry is pretty much a non-factor

Ah, I thought you were basing that just on Kiffin's comments. He didn't even mention McQuistan in the tackle competition last time he commented on it.
