Buccaneers | Kiffin would like to stay with team
Wed, 2 Jan 2008 13:31:59 -0800
Scott Reynolds, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said he would like to stay with the team after this season, and said he does not want to leave to coach for the Oakland Raiders and his son, Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin. "Whatever happened in Oakland has nothing to do with me just because of the [last name] Kiffin. Believe me. I am totally concentrating on the New York Giants. I love the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I love Tampa. I love my son, but that doesn't mean I don't like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers," Kiffin said. He is currently working without a contract for the Buccaneers.

When Monte get a few years older he will eventually want less responsibility. If that happens i could see him come here down the road or whereever Lane may be and coach/advise in a more relaxed role.

Who the hell knows, but I think he "protests too much" not coming to Oakland.
I'm not saying that he will be Oakland, but I wouldn't bet the farm on today's comments either.....
Personally, I'd love to see it happen. I think he would get the players' attention pretty damn quickly. Probably the most respected DC in football outside of Dick Lebeau.

I will say his team in still playing right now. Why would he suggest otherwise.

A simple, "I have a playoff game this Sunday, next question" would've seemed sufficient. Much like these college coaches that can't hack the NFL, the more they went on about "loving the NFL", the closer they were to hitting the eject button.
Al Davis' moves over the past 12 months suggest to me that he's willing to alter his thinking in regard to long held theories. Monte Kiffin wouldn't shock me much at all.....

The fact that he is "Monte Kiffin" makes hiring him intriguing but I can't say I'm a big fan of bend but don't break zone based defenses... My biggest question would be how much longer does Monte want to coach? He's almost 70 and his retirement has been already speculated some the past few years...If we bring Monte aboard and commit to that Tampa 2, we had better have someone qualified on staff being prepped to take over in 2 or 3 years...

Monte Kiffin says he's not interested in Oakland
So does that mean he'll be living in San Francisco?
