Assuming we land a defensive lineman in the first round (Long, Dorsey), who do you want in the second and third rounds?
For the second round I love Beau Bell (and wouldn't mind putting him inside and moving Kirk Morrison outside, or using a three-man line with Long/Warren/Kelly, with Burgess moving to OLB).
For the third round, Darius Reynaud is really climbing up my wish list. In a run-run-run offense, the guy has been a very solid, sometimes spectacular, receiver. He's got wheels and reasonable size (5-10, 205). Though, I also like the idea of hawaiianboy's boy, Jordy Nelson (though I wonder if we're done with the big, slow guys).
I think Long or Dorsey, with Bell, would make this a very flexible unit.

I wish we had a third rounder.
I lie Frank Okam to slide into Rnd 2.
I think Okam could fall to Day 2, personally.
I could honestly see going DL-DL in the first 2 rounds. It won't happen, but I would definitely consider it. Red Bryant or Dre Moore would look pretty good next to Long or Dorsey.
An OL certainly wouldn't offend me. Impossible to call right now which ones will be there. Never would have figured Marcus McNeil would fall into our laps, so...ya know. This time, we pounce on the opportunity to get a 1st round OT in the 2nd round.

Unfortunately, with the Raiders' luck, they'd be getting Winston Justice, not Marcus McNeill.
My round 2-3 jihads are pretty clear cut at the moment: Trenches.
I like Jeff Otah, King Dunlap, Alex Boone and Dunae Brown along the OL.
I like Red Bryant, Chris Ellis and Kenny Iwebema along the DL.
If we go for skill, I gotta figure Early Doucet would be a nice guy to bring in as a target for JR.

Ouch. thats a long time to wait for some S&B happiness... How can you not like a guy named King Dunlap!!!1

I'm so sick of talking about the draft in November when we should be talking about meaningful football games on Sunday's.

If a D-lineman dosn't happen in the 1st round, I think I'd be looking for Red Bryant in the 2nd round.
Space-eater from A&M with a work ethic. We simply have to add a DT this spring, one way or another.
How about a 2nd round WR? Mario Manningham? haven't really paid attention to the WR's. A true deep threat for Jamarcus would be nice. be nice to see Johnnie Lee assume this role.

WR has to be on the Raiders radar.
I knew two years ago this position was going to be problematic and now with Porter ready to go it's even more problematic. Curry isa a nice possession receiver although his drops this year are troubling. Higgins? I dunno the guy doesn't seem to be much use. We need a target for Russell..who's it gonna be?

I think Russell has targets already. If he is the real deal, every player on our offense is a click better, receivers included. Top QBs make their targets better. I like the TE he can throw to, the fullback he can throw to, and Curry. Still need one for sure, I just don't think the cupboard is completely bare.
Higgins is an unknown to me. Woulda been nice to see him get some more action, but he's a 3rd rounder from UTEP, I'll give him some time.
But we have the roster room to add another body or two, a Kevin Curtis-type would be nice.

Yeah, a Zach Miller/Ron Curry/JLH/draft pick seems like a competent staff of receivers to me, if only Curry can stay healthy.
I'm still on Darius Reynaud, though. Just don't like Manningham's attitude.

What does anybody see in Higgins right now. He's shown nothing either as a return guy or a WR. I hope it wasn't a wasted pick. We have some horses there at WR but we don't have a real #1 who can be a difference maker. Curry is a possession receiver who has developed the yips for some reason -- way too many drops. I doubt Porter is going to be here next year. That kinda thins the barn a little too much for my tastes.

Most receivers don't show much in their first year, though.
We know he's shifty and we know he's fast. We also know he was productive in college. The light may never come on for him in the NFL, but the organization believes in him enough to keep him around (unlike Morant, Gabriel, Moses and M. Williams), so obviously there's some faith in his ability. Not enough to play him ahead of a veteran like Tim Dwight, but at least some.

Curry, Madsen, Miller, Griffith, Huggy (if he stays), Dwight (if he stays), and eventually Higgins. We may not have the personnel for a spread offense, but we have several short-to-intermediate receivers who can make plays. Definitely need another WR. But as for receivers in general, we're not doing too bad.

Yep.
The source doesn't help my case any, but the idea still holds merit. Freddie Mitchell once said that Randy Moss fucked things up for every rookie WR after him. All of a sudden, WRs went from being an understood developmental player to being expected to make an immediate impact. While Freddie and his great hands never made that impact, we all know that the 3rd year for WRs is still the typical point in their career when they become what they were expected to be. Asking the 99th pick in the draft to step in a perform right away was a bit unrealistic of us, myself included.
I think we'd also have to remind ourselves of that with any rookie we bring in this offseason. WRs are like QBs. They're investments for the future in most cases. Any immediate return on those investments is just icing. The cake comes later.

whether we do DLine or not in round 1, i'd love to see us take Red Bryant in round 2
if not him, maybe a guy who could fall out of the 1st like Craig Steltz or Gholston
maybe a top shelf WR that can slip would work too
most of all, i hope we can get some deal to bring in a 3rd round pick somehow
I've decided. In Rd1, we take either Dorsey or Ellis, then take Bryant in Rd2. Our DTs are absolutely brutal. This move would change the dynamic of our entire team, and might even limit LT's access to the inner areas of our colon.

Mario Manningham does have a shitty attitude. But he is a PERFECT fit for JaMarcus. The kid can flat out make big plays. He isnt the most reliable possesion guy or a very good team player so he will slip to RND2. BUT he is fast as hell and smooth too. He makes great catches deep in traffic and finds the ball extremely well. I think he will be a dangerous player in the NFL in a few years. Pairing him with our recievers in RND2 makes just as much sense to me as paying out the ARSE for B.Berrian.
I'd rather pay out the arse and have a guy who isn't so in love with himself, and who has also developed into a top flight WR...but that's just me.

You dont want B.Berrian than. Didnt he say wanted to be paid top 5 in the NFL! He isnt even close to being that. So his head is already hyped. I just think Mario Manningham is young and foolish. He is gonna run a 4.4 flat and possibly a 4.3. Thats gonna make him seem like a better person, haha.
I think Berrian has earned a big payday. His speed is on the elite level. His hands are damn near glue-like. His routes and ability to squat in zone coverages has really come a long way this year, and I think he'll only continue getting better.
Manningham is a taint, and would probably go all Jerry Porter on us if he didn't get on the field as a rookie. Damned if I want another "Play me or trade me!" drama queen here.

Would you be open to trading for Roy Williams?...
I'm not crazy about the projected WR's of this draft class myself... I see a lot of guys that will need 2-3 years of seasoning and few, if anybody that you could plug and play IMO... I like Jordy Nelson as a Joe Jurivicious type and the upside of Paul Hubbard, but I'm not seeing a guy I'd be really happy about using a 1st or 2nd on over the other position players that would be there... Wake me when Darrius Bey becomes eligible...
Unfortunately the free agent class is pretty light as well with Berrian the best of the lot, though I think DJ Hackett is on the verge... We definitely could use someone Joey Galloway-like that is capable of pressing the safeties.... I think it's more likely we'll look at a second tier guy like Devery Henderson than bid against the offers Berrian is likely to receive...
Trade back in RD1 to get an extra 2nd RD pick, then trade our 1st for Roy Williams and draft Red Bryant and Dre Moore with our two 2nd RD picks
You lost me up until the point where you drafted two DTs. Then it started to make some sense.
Is Legend even on the block? He's got a tendency to get a little hamstrung from time to time, but he's a killer when he's healthy. I wouldn't give a #1 for him, but I wouldn't hang the phone up if Detroit called.

Chad J or Roy Williams would make me cry id be so happy. Berrian would be a sweet pick-up but i worried about paying another WR so much money. Especially when he has 12 TD's in 4 years... thats not worth top 20 money. He is 17th in yards, 20 th in catches and 33 in TD's. He is asking for top 5 money. No thanks ill pass.

Berrian is a guy that worked his way onto the field, and has had to deal with a bunch of QB problems
he is a nasty deep ball threat, and it looks like we have a nasty deep ball QB waiting on the sidelines
i agree i wouldnt throw top 5 money, but definately top 20
and bring in CJ or Roy Williams would be awesome, i just fear that its a pipe dream

I'd love to see us sign Berrian. Guys that have excellent physical tools AND have had to fight there way onto the field are safe bets IMO.
Speed & Hands. I think he'd be a great weapon for Russell in 2008.
I'm leaning more & more toward taking DL & LB with our first 2 selections this draft. Particulary if we can get FA upgrades at WR & OL prior to the draft.

i think building the lines, preferably the defensive line, is a must in round 2
sure i'd like a safety and a LB, but honestly, getting some studs up front is not only going to make Stu's job a whole lot easier and make him look like a stud, but also all of our LBers will fiunally get the oppurtunity to play sideline to sideline and make plays
a fresh NT and a stud RDE is really going to be like adding a NT, RDE, FS, SS and SLB

1. Chris Long
2. Steve Justice - C - Wake Forest (285 LBs, mobile, but great upper body strength.)
If we can work a trade for Chad or Roy beyond these 2 picks... I'm a happy guy.

If you want to steal someone's franchise player its 2 1st round picks right? Can you do that after the draft? Like use our first this year and give up the next 2? Just curious...

Mario Manningham runs great routes and has a 4.4 forty! If he is there in round two im pumped.
Lawrence Jackson (http://www.cfbstats.com/2007/player/657/56621/sack/gamelog.html): I've been down on drafting him because he's not a speed guy. I really, really want someone who can get around a tackle before he's even out of his stance. But, with Burgess slipping...and shrinking...Having Jackson around as our base end and relegating Burgess to nickle packages seems intriguing.
