If we can keep him out of Tijuana and shopping malls we might be onto something here.

Came out too soon, didn't want to do the work, daddy was giving interviews saying that he needed to be pushed......

I think the kid got to Div. 1-A on pure, raw talent, and hasn't done a thing since, effort-wise.
He is well-known because he had his own draft, and because Saban reduced him to a quivering mound Jell-O.

Every single year there are DT athletes that just need "the light to go on". Kiffin already told everyone, "We are drafting productive players."

Manny Wright don't fit the profile.

6-6 330 with 1 sack in 2 career games?

Worth a look.

If he cries, we cut him.

If he plays well, we cut Anttaj.

I dunno... something tells me Keith Millard and Rob Ryan aren't exactly fits for the type of coaching personality Manny is looking for. Manny needs Dr. Phil as his position coach, not the drill sargeant from Full Metal Jacket.

I'm content with what they have on this defensive line. If the offense can keep the defense from being on the field 40 minutes a game, that will go a long ways in improving the run defense.

I still say we're thin at DT (Not that Manny Wright is the pivitol piece, but hey?)

Sapp and Sands are solid, Kelly is a tweener and Hawthorne is more than likely fodder.

We havent added a body to a DT rotation that gave up 125+ on the ground last year....My only worry on defence right now.

Jack made a good point, I forget where. I hope I am interpreting it correctly.

We were putting Kelly and Sapp next to each other, and they are the same type of player. They need to be next to a Terdell, a Pat Williams, a space eater, that takes on two blocks.

Essentially, they are both one gap players. I am assuming this about Kelly, as I think he's still a bit of an unknown. I think if Kelly is a long term answer, it's at Sapp's spot.

So, what we're looking for is a backup for Terd, a backup space eater. And maybe, down the road, a replacement for Sapp, if Kelly isn't that guy. Let's assume Kelly is that guy. Because I think the DE talk for Kelly is over. Huntley, Moses, and maybe Richardson seem to bear that out.

Is Taj a space eater? I dunno, we haven't seen enough of him. But I think that if we had brought in a Branch or someone like that, it's giving up on Taj. I think that Taj and Kelly get a chance to establish their roles this year, and we'll know more after this season.

I wanted a DT as well, but none of the names in this draft really blew my skirt up. I am cool with giving Taj his shot, and going from there.

But if we keep starting Kelly and Sapp, based on last year, we will still have problems in the middle.

anttaj has been a decent rotational guy, seems to be improving every year. Seemed to have some of his best penetration the last couple games of the season. Nevertheless i would like to see someone else come in to push him to get even better, or push him off the depth chart.

Maybe Jay Richardson or Brayton move inside for depth...

I dunno.

Thats always been my belief. I'm interested to see what size he is at the next mini-camp. Last year either he or the coaching staff thought he could fill Ted Washington's shoes. So he showed up to training huge - 330 or so, but it was fat. It really robbed him of one of his best attributes which is his initial burst off the snap.

Bills Claim DT Wright
by Chris Brown, Lead Journalist Last Updated: 5/2/2007 6:06 PM ET

The Buffalo Bills addressed their nose tackle position Wednesday when they successfully claimed defensive tackle Manny Wright off waivers.

The former Miami Dolphin was released by Buffalo's AFC East rival Tuesday.

Wright is a former 2005 fifth-round supplemental draft choice out of USC, but left Dolphins training camp last August and spent the 2006 season on the reserve/non-football injury list while battling clinical depression.

He had been participating in Miami's offseason program under new head coach Cam Cameron, but when the club drafted Utah nose tackle Paul Soliai last weekend in the fourth round Wright became expendable.

Buffalo is still looking to fortify their run defense which ranked 28th last season and Wright is regarded as a physically talented run defender with the ability to disrupt plays in the backfield.

The 6'6" 329-pound Wright hasn't appeared in an NFL game since his rookie season of 2005. He has appeared in three games in his professional career.

Its becoming obvious you have to have the right frame of mind to be on this team. Kiffin is building a great future for us by avoiding assholes like W.Thomas. I hate to pass on serious talent but have we learned nothing from the Randy Moss era in Oakland. "No more assholes" might as well be our new motto. Porter seems to have got the memo.

2007 is quite the parallel to Gruden's first year in Oakland, isn't it?

No way would I have given that dude a chance....the custom fit "jackets" do not come with Raider emblems on them. No need for a dude who hears voices with the mentality of an 8yr old girl on this squad.

Damn first rounder, IIRC.

You gotta be a big pussy to stand 6-6 335 and not make an NFL training camp....

Yeah, he got cut already. Buffalo picked him up off waivers and decided that they'd seen enough just 6 days later.
