That's awesome news:) I was worried that he'd get some play in the FA market. The Terd got paid!

GREAT news. I figured he go the way of Eric Barton and some others. Looks to me like the organization is trying to pull it's head out of it's ass! :D

ROCK N ROLL!

This off season is getting a ten out of ten so far.

If we can sign one o lineman, trade Moss and score David Carr or J-Russ...I'll be about as happy as it gets.

Plus we need a good draft. :)

yea id say its a very solid move... it basically says we saw noone of interest in the FA market and wont have a shot at someon in the first 2 rounds we like enough.

I'm glad to have the terd locked up

I am happy with this news. Sands has gradually developed into a real player for us.

Thanks for posting the link Lang, but I disagree with your meaning...

I think it just shows how effective terd was, and how confident we are in him as a starter (hence the 4mil/year starter dough)

I don't think its a lack of other options, but a vote of confidence in the run stuffer we already have...

Huge signing in my eyes.....Me thinks they will start the Terds and move Kelly to RE. Remember towards the end of last year, Kelly was slid out more often at the RE spot.

He was the biggest one to get signed as far as I'm concerned. Now let's extend Nnamdi's contract.

I don't think this means he's a starter. I still think we're going to bring another 2-gap guy in to rotate with him. I expect Sands will see more snaps but no way should he be on the field seeing say 50+ snaps every weekend.

good signing. draft him and hawthorne some rotation help and see if we can get another DE with run stopping skills.

Marty fired, Terd re-signed....quite a february. If Merriman gets busted again, and Norv Turner gets hired by San Diego, I'm gonna have to change my shorts over here.

Great Job AL Daivs. This offseason is like a perpetual wet dream. Sands is a man beast who is finally starting to play up to his size. We need all the run support we can get. Great signing im stoked. Lets do Scrabble's contract and sign 1 or 2 nice FA's and draft AP or JR and start fucking up the AFC west again!

the defense is being well compensated for their efforts. though he gets dissed alot, robert thomas was a solid backup and great in goal line scenarios.

Raiders re-signed LB Robert Thomas to a three-year contract.

The '02 first-round pick was a late bloomer but serves as a valuable nickel linebacker in Rob Ryan's defense. There's an outside chance he'll be competing with Sam Williams on the strong side in training camp.

that's the info from rotoworld

I think he'll give sam a run for his money

My hopes are on Darnizzle Bizzle...

He'll be 22 next year, and is athletic, strong and fast enough to hold his own.

He's my darkhorse...

I like both the Sands and Thomas signings, but I'm with RaiderIVLife in wanting to hear about Nnamdi getting an extension.

Also, I'm not going to get TOO up on the signings yet. I remember, many moons ago, getting pumped up about signing Jerrod Cherry to a nice contract so he could compete with Anthony Dorsett. Cherry didn't even make the opening day roster.

Darnell. I'm curious to see what he's got.

Glad to see Terd re-upped.

As stated, now Scrabble. We really need to to this. Pay this cat. I still think he'll only get better.

Agree with everyone on Sands. It's also a good message to re-up the guys that have BEEN here before throwing scratch at new dudes.

Don't go to sleep on Robert Thomas. I watched him a lot during his UCLA days and much like a Kirk Morrison, he just made plays. Consistently. I was actually suprised that he flopped. Looks like returning to Cali was good for him.

I think Bing is too small to play the SAM backer slot, but I've been wrong before.

Just an impression but the way they structured these deals makes me think we're not anticipating spending big in free agency. The 2007 cap hit for these 2 guys is $5.1 million. But it easily could have been $2 million less had they structured the deals in a way to minimize the 2007 cap number. This reminds me of the way we did things last year as opposed to 2005 and earlier.

This isnt a great year for free agents honestly. Its a good year to get overpaid if your a player.

Kinda feels weird when someone from the media isn't teeing us up but oh well:

Raiders re-sign top defenders Thomas, Sands

By John Clayton
ESPN.com

The Oakland Raiders became one of the first NFL teams to make major moves before the start of free agency by re-signing two of their top defensive players.

Defensive tackle Terdell Sands reached a four-year, $17 million agreement that included at $4 million signing bonus. Linebacker Robert Thomas signed a three-year, $6 million contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus.

The Raiders have only seven remaining unsigned free agents and only one on defense -- safety Derrick Gibson.

It was fitting the Raiders' first moves would be on defense. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan helped to turn a good, young Raiders defense into the third-ranked defense in football. The Raiders allowed only 289.1 yards a game on defense, an amazing total considering the Raiders offense scored only 12 touchdowns.

Sands and Thomas were clearly at the top of the Raiders' list of priorities. Had he reached free agency, Sands would have been competing with Ian Scott of the Chicago Bears and Robaire Smith of the Tennessee Titans for the top money at defensive tackle. Thomas came to the Raiders from the St. Louis Rams and was a valuable role player on defense.

Looks like signing Tommie Kelly will be a foregone conclusion. I'd love to see us rework Scrabble and Morrison's deals this offseason and get Burgess extended. I like the fact that we've already made a concerted effort to keep the nucleus of this young defense together. The one guy I want to see rewarded with a nice deal is Ron Curry.

Curry made 380K for sitting out a year. He made 600K last year, and is scheduled to make 1.5 million this year.

I'd like him extended, but I think he's been paid what he's earned so far.

Well that makes Jerry Porter a robber baron then. ;) I'd say it's a good bet that Curry will be elevated to the #1 wideout position this season provided we don't sign a CJ or some other big name wideout. There's always the possibility of him sitting out although not that likely. He's deserving of a lot more than 1.5 mill IMO. Why not just nip it in the bud before he's eligible for FA

Well, that was his salary without signing bonus and hsi $5 million roster bonus.

I have no idea how the Raiders will play the Ronald Curry situation. Still, I would think that Curry would work with the Raiders considering they took him in the 7th round and were patient enough to develop him? I'm guessing an extension with a moderate bonus with a low base in year 1 & 2 (just in case of injury). That would protect both sides. IMO.

Ron Curry was quoted last season as saying that he considered it an audition for all 32 NFL teams.

The kid wants to start, no question. I imagine he wants a contract that will reflect that (though he wasn't directly quoted as saying that).

I have 2 reasons why Al shouldn't have paid TK that much guaranteed money:
