Debate the rankings all you want (like Kris Dielman being at #65 when he'll probably get the 2nd biggest payday at OG this year behind Steinbach), but I thought the list was interesting. There's slightly more depth in this FA class than I thought at first glance. And while I don't think any of the top-10 guys are going to get suckered into coming to Oakland, except for maybe Leonard Davis, there are some possibilities here.

Signing a guy like Davis and then possibly either Dielman, C. Coleman, or D. Dockery at OG would do wonders for the offensive line. Sprinkle in a run at Daniel Graham at TE or Kendrick Allen and Ian Scott at DT and Oakland might be able to get a couple of guys via FA that could make an immediate impact.

Personally, I think Oakland needs to sign Terdell Sands to an extension now while he'll still come on the cheap. I think a lot of teams are going to be intrigued by a 6'7" 335lb. DT. Get Sands extended, sign a guy like Allen or Scott to rotate with him and move Tommy Kelly back outside to DE to replace Brayton.

There's also some intriguing options at RB if Oakland chooses to let Jordan go. Ahman Green, Jamal Lewis, Dominic Rhodes... some relatively big-name guys.

Totally agree on Sands. We need to sign Big Terd to a contract and pick up another big fat guy to clog up the middle.. either by draft of FA. I wouldn't mind having several of the DT's on that list on our squad if we can't / don't draft a quality guy in April.

Gawd damn this is what free agency is going to look like in March.

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed third-year veteran LB Daryl Smith to a five-year extension through the 2012 season. The deal is worth $25 million and includes $10 in bonuses. Smith will earn $15 million in the first three years of the deal.

Teams just have way too much money to spend when they're paying restricted free agents $5 million bucks a year.

Imagine if we had Jared Allen opposite D Burgess? Too bad he's a RFA but homeboy's going to get paid either way.

Don't know why Ryan Lilja is ranked so low? He was All Pro a year ago. Hell if we can come out of this with at least one decent OL and a TE, I'd be happy. I don't see Eric Johnson's name on the list.

I'm already mentally preparing myself for a free agency like last year. The shape we're in right now is not something a top tier free agent is going to want to step into.

And either is a top #1 pick prospect. I fully expect to be "Eli-ed".

Big difference between a free agent and a draftee. The free agent is still going to get his money and has control of where he winds up. If a draftee says don't pick me #1 and ends up dropping to say #5 then he's just cost himself $25 million bucks over 6 years.

Its not as bad as it seems fellas. Lets not forget we have a monster young D and a great DC. We have alot of picks this year and WALSH is gone. It sucks to be us right now but lets not get too down. Fuck everybody hating on us, as usual. Im not suprised to see us get punked in the media by these clowns. If you notice Sarkl said he didnt want to wait. That means Al really wants to talk to a coach still playing. If he wanted Sark he would have had him IMO. Are #1 draft pick should get traded and we wont have to worry about no BS.

That list is light at DT IMO, but solid at DE. I think we'll have to draft a Day-1 DT to be our next run stuffer, or at least part of the DT rotation.

Charles Grant, Jared Allen, Justin Smith all sound good to me.

I can't see KC letting Jared Allen walk, he's their best defensive player but the good thing is that they're going to have to pay through the nose to keep him after coughing up some serious coin for Gonzo. I do agree that there is a nice crop of FA DE's out there. Hopefully we get that matching bookend for D Burgess.

We better take care of our own business first, namely Big Terd who'll unlikely get some play as well as Tommy Kelly. I'd go namely OL this offseason. I'm not getting my hopes up for a Leonard Davis or Erich Steinbach. I'd be happy if we could get a Ryan Lilja, Derrick Dockery, Sean O'hara, more of the mid level guys. I'm also warming up to Jeremy Stevens based on the recommendations of one Mr. Bones.

I hoping beyond hope that guys like Gallery & Grove "wake up" in year 4 and players like McQuistan & Boothe continue to grow. Hopefully those that say coaching & scheme were the bigger culprits in their failure are right. Wouldn't that be something? Langston Walker appears gone, but who cares, that dude sucks in any scheme. Just doesn't have the "fire" it seems to me.

I tend to agree that Al won't pay through the nose for an Oline players, he's counting on the returning players to get better, probably 1 or 2 mid level veteran signings and a draft pick of two.

I could see him going after a FA TE & DE however.

Turdell Sands? Lock him up, NOW !!!!

I'm just down on Jake Grove. Donnie Edwards knocking him back on his ass really did it for me. You just can't coach toughnes. sI really hope we look for a center via draft (Satele or Kyle Young) or let Chris Morris compete for the starting job. Center is such an integral part of an OL.. After BRobb went postal our OL has been in disarray

We'll be lucky to land one marquee name in free agency.

If Rob Ryan is named the head coach sooner rather than later, and we can draft a ray of hope like AP or Russell or Quinn, we could land 2 or 3 in the offseason.

I'm betting on a mid-tier guy on that list, like Hank Fraley, Ryan Long, Cory Redding, Kendyl Jakox or Cosey Coleman.

The top fifty on that list won't touch this clusterfuck.

I don't know man, maybe you're right, but money still talks. We'll have to overpay at times, but at least we have room to play with. I do think that AL will make at least one significant FA move on defense (probably DE) and a couple of solid veteran signings on offense. The draft will net our "money" players quite possibly.

The problem with the "we have money" idea is that ALL the teams have money. Plus some teams are paying their HC $5-8 Million/year and still have money to burn (cash)...Al doesn't apparently. Al has to dish out dead cash to Fat Albert ($2 Million) and he's probably adding that to the amount he is willing to pay a HC...that's a problem.

Anyway, my point is that a lot of teams are going to be overpaying this off season and given the choice of say Jacksonville and Oakland what would you do assuming the money is even close?

Like Bones said, with the TV deals coming in so lucrative, and the cap going into the 110 million range, everyone will have money.

They'll then get to decide which messes to avoid.

We're a mess.

These ranking's blow, no offense. I thought it was funny how low Jared Allen was, and Michael Lewis/Deilman. I actually have a theory that the Eagles gave S.Considine a chance to play safety so they could re-seign M.Lewis cheaper and evaluate the new guy replacing Dawkins... the team had a awful run defense and Michael Lewis is a monster run support guy and a hardhitter in the secondary, he got torched in one game and got benched? anyway

I would Like to score O-Lineman like Starks/Steinbach/L.Davis, and a DE like J.Thomas/C.Grant/Little. Stallworth would be great if we got rid of Moss and/or Porter. AL will be impressed with Stallworth's speed and wont mind his injury bug. Another guy like that AL might like is Ahman Green.

Adalius Thomas can play alot of postions he is very versitile. He has played DE/DT for the Ravens as well as OLB. Im not sure if it is true but ive heard he has even played at safety in certin formations. The only problem with this is guy is he post 30. He can sack tackle and do it all. He has good speed too. He will be making slightly less than Lance Briggs.

I agree about Jared Allen and Dielman, but Michael Lewis is an overrated piece of trash.

He's Derrick Gibson with a bit more instincts, and he plays beside Lito Sheppard, and Brian Dawkins...

That 2005 Pro Bowl vote was hogwash. Adrian Wilson, Sean Taylor and Gibril Wilson would have been better choices.

I dunno, but I would be pissed if we signed Michael Lewis to some silly 3 year 12-15 mil. contract, and relegated Shweig to the bench.

I live with an Eagles fan, and I have watched alot of Eagles games(when Oakland isnt on of course) and Michael Lewis is def not trash. He can rock people and instill fear in Wr's. He also can tackle as well as any SS. He is flawed in coverage sometimes but its not like he hasnt played very well in big games. I think the Eagles new he was going to get a contract they wouldnt pay, which happens all the time with them(Trotter, T.Vincent, H.Douglas, D.Staley,Bobby Taylor, S.Barber etc.) and started their future guy who comes cheaper next season. Philly is a great organization when it comes to player moves. They dont overpay very often and they let system guys go and re-sign them two years later for minimum and get production. Michael Lewis doesnt deserve a big contract if he has legit coverage issues, im just not sure if that is the case. He is the opposite of Stu ability wise and would fit in nicely here if packaged correctly with Huff and Stu. Michael Lewis at SS and Huff at FS for running downs and Stu and Huff for passing downs, it might help our run stopping. I dont wanna overpay for him but i think he would be a nice pick-up and some team will appreciate his ability to rock wideouts senseless and play like a LB against the run. I just think he will make more money than alot of the other 90 guys ahead of him.

A guy who can play up at the line but can't cover in space... sure sounds like the second coming of Derrick Gibson to me.

This guy already made the pro-bowl and has had many productive seasons. How is that Derrick Gibson?

*M.Lewis wasnt a first round bust either

I can't really claim to be an expert on the guy, was just going off of what you wrote:

Your description reminded me of Derrick Gibson, that's all.

I've watched my share of Philly games, and I don't know what people see in the guy, personally.

He is definitely overrated, and like I stated in my post earlier he didnt deserve that Pro Bowl spot at all.

Wilson, Taylor and Gibril Wilson all had more big plays, and are better in coverage.

He was on that 'vaunted' Philly secondary, with Sheppard, Dawkins and Sheldon Brown, so everyone thought all four should be Pro Bowlers.

Not a direction I want to go in the offseason. We've spent enough money and draft dollars on the secondary, no?

Tron, overall I bet you've seen him more than me, although I've watched my fair share...But signing Lewis to a lucrative contract (Which he'll command; Think Tank Williams/Reynaldo Hill type money) to be a 2-3 down run stopper is silly, IMO.

Well at first I was just saying his ranking was low not that we should sign him. We really need to concentrate on offense with the draft and our cap room. But if he is 99th then he wouldnt be getting a very large contract as a safety who just got benched and let walk. We do have a poor run defense and as much as i like Stu and Huff they arent exactly scarring RB or Wr's back there very much and thats the only thing i feel our secondary lacks right now. But anyway i agree spending good money on this guy wouldnt be very high on the list at all. But i do feel he is young and has upside and will be a good pick up for somebody next season. If he can stop the mental lapses in pass coverage.

Not a big Stu fan either, but I'd rather throw FA dollars at a DE. Tyler Brayton is a stiff out there. ZERO sacks from a starting DE? Bwahahahahahahaha
